Drama League Nominations

A pretty obvious list, aside from the nod for Ghost Quartet- which really makes me happy.

Drama League Nominations

I'm not sure I realized the rules for the Drama League Awards made Fun Home and its performances eligible again this season. (And I guess the same for Hand to God. So happy to see Boyer on that list!)

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

Who do you think is gonna get it? I'd hope Michael Cerveris, Kristin Chenoweth, or Chita Rivera. Surprised they've never received it before.

Drama League Nominations

SIDE SHOW certainly struck out here.

Drama League Nominations

^That's one thing I noticed as well. I definitely would have nominated Side Show or Gigi over Allegro. The classic-Doyle use musical instruments played by actors worked well enough, but other than that...what a weird production of a weird show

And Honeymoon in Vegas, although McClure got a nomination.

Drama League Nominations

Interesting that Cerveris was nominated again for Fun Home, while Judy Kuhn was nominated in place of Sydney Lucas from last year.

I don't envy having to pick just one performance from that list- I haven't seen them all, but there are some pretty formidable ones listed.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Drama League Nominations

Kristin or Chita will win, that's how they usually go with these.

Drama League Nominations

I feel like it's Chita's to win this year, as this is a once-a-career honor and how much longer will she be around?

Thy pretty much have to give it to Chita. I can't believe she's never won before.

....but the world goes 'round

Drama League Nominations

Am I the only one who thinks it's going to be Helen Mirren to win? Chita, Kelly, and Kristin are strong contenders, and there are one or two other potential surprises (Bradley Cooper, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Steven Boyer), but for some reason I just think she has the edge--level of celebrity plus level of show success plus overall career respect...

I do wish one more actor from both On the Town and Airline Highway had made their ways in. They're such great ensemble casts, though, so maybe there was just too much competition for attention between all the various actors in each.

Chita all the waaaaaaaaay

Drama League Nominations

My money's on Helen Mirren. Looking at past winners, there's been many Broadway legends, stars, and tour-de-forces that have been nominated but lost to Hollywood names and icons.

Drama League Nominations

My guesses in order of likelihood:

1) Michael Cerveris (though I hope he doesn't win)

2) Chita Rivera (sentimental win)

3) Helen Mirren (celebrity factor)

4) Stephen Boyer (breakout performance)

Drama League Nominations

Does anyone think Kelli O'Hara has a chance of winning?

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Drama League Nominations

My guess: Helen Mirren or Chita Rivera (:

Were the fun Home ladies on last year's list?

#22

Drama League Nominations

Michael Cerveris and Sydney Lucas were nominated last year.

Is this this the first (only?) time Fun Home is up against Hamilton?

#23

Drama League Nominations

The Drama Leagues fascinate me for this very reason. Pitting every actor against every other actor, in every category, both on, off and off-off Broadway. How do we begin to know which one actor will outshine all the rest when there's so much competition and everyone is so wildly different? I'm always so curious to find out who wins it every year. Probably more curious than I am about the Tonys.

Drama League Nominations

I think they'll give it to Kristin because this role is so tailor-made for her that there may never be another chance to give it to her for this kind of performance. They may give Chita the Distinguished Achievement award some time in the next few years to reward and recognize her whole body of incredible work she has done in the theater.

Drama League Nominations

I think there is a limit to how many Actors from each show can make the list.
