Do you really think she'll win in the Best Actress category?

Nope, which is why I think it was unfair to her. She already has two Tonys and it'd been nice for her to cap her career with a third Special Event Tony. But, I think most Tony voters -- even though they love her -- will feel weird voting for someone playing themself over Lupone, LaChanze etc..... Because of her popularity in the community, she has a shot at winning, but I don't think she will with all of the other deserving candidates.
It may end up that Chita will snag a nomination. The Best Actress category started off nicely - LuPone, La Chanze, Friedman, then sort of just came to a grinding halt.
At this point, I don't know how much of a lock Friedman is. I think that it's likely that she will snag a nomination, but Chita may take her slot. I think it will pan out like this:
Patti LuPone, SWEENEY TODD
La Chanze, THE COLOR PURPLE
Kelli O'Hara, THE PAJAMA GAME
Chita Rivera, THE DANCER'S LIFE
Maria Freidman, THE WOMAN IN WHITE
Laura Benanti could sneak in, but it's not probable. It's also possible that Nellie McKay could take Chita or Maria's slot.
My picks to win:
LaChanze - Actress (really want her to win this year)
Felicia Fields - Supporting Actress (i think she's a lock)
Michael Cerveris - Actor (better than Connick and Young, IMO)
No clue who will win supporting actor though...maybe someone from Sweeney or Jersey Boys?
I don't think Felicia Fields deserves to even be nominated. I would go to Withers-Mendes over her.
This is who I would want to win:
Actress: Patti LuPone
Actor: I have not decided yet...I don't know if I ever will.
Sup. Actress: Cyndi Lauper
Sup. Actor: Manoel Felciano
I don't see Threepenny until April 26th...I'm sure Cyndi will be great though!
I too loved Young's performance. Loved Martin too, but he really is just playing himself. A nomination will do, but not a win.
I'm torn between Cerveris, Connick Jr., and Young - I don't know who I want to win.
But I disagree entirely with your take on SWEENEY, I think it's brilliant.
As long as either Michael or Harry win, I'll be fine.
Sorry, I thought Jersey Boys was mediocre...both times I saw it.
Honestly, when I saw JB, yes, John Lloyd Young was the best thing about the show. I LOVED his voice and thought the songs were excellent because of his interpretation. I do not, however, think his part is as complex as Michael Cerveris' and I think Michael made his part more believable. His character has so many levels, whereas John has an amazing Frankie Valli voice (the book scenes in JB were laughable). I know both people got rave reviews, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Tony voters gave it to John...my personal opinion is that Michael should win though.

Nice comment, but more importantly... any other tasty pics of Adam???
Point taken...and I respect your opinion. I also realize that I am in the minority of those people who don't LOVE Jersey Boys. That being said, I hope John Lloyd Young is cast in another show on Broadway when his run in Jersey Boys is up. I would be interested to see him tackle another role.

I totally agree ddt regarding JLY, his performance is a vocal wonder and his acting is focused and layered. The entire show suprises on many levels and always entertains.
And Kelli O'Hara is pure joy in The Pajama Game.
Sutton Foster delivers a mediocre, just okay, forgettable performance in a FEATURED role. Not leading.
I would rejoice if Keli O'Hara won...she's a wonderful, wonderful performer, but I don't think anyone can take this away from LuPone.
It is certainly going to be a fun Tony awards this year...unlike last year where we knew every single winner (with the exception of Leading Actor in a Play).
