My guesses on two match-ups:
Cerveris vs. JLY = Cerveris
Patti vs. LaChanze vs. Kelli O = LaChanze
But it's going to be a rough year -- I don't see any locks on anything at this point.
Does anybody else think that Lestat is sort of like Wicked, It also got mixed reviews out of town and it was worked on MAJORLY, and they both have a complete kick ass cast. And they are I believe both about the spectacle, not the actual plot/show. However Wicked, although it opened sporting mixed to negative reviews (however they did favor Chenoweth, especially B.B.) it was an upset when Avenue Q (in my mind rightly) wont the Tony. And I have a funny feeling that they same sort of think will happen in this situation. I mean let us really look at this. If worse comes to worse at least the cast will be nominated.
Just to add my opinion about something else in one post I really want Cerveris to win, I mean have never had an experience in the theater like the one he gave me and I don’t think I will ever have an experience like that ever again. I also thought that JYL was inferior to everything I expected of him, except his voice. And are we forgetting something the Tony Awards HATE jukebox musicals, and although I think that Hugh Panaro will be nominated, I don’t think that Hugh Panaro will win. Who else thinks that Carolee Carmello could win, I really like her in everything that she does (except Mama Mia, but that is a totally different story).

I haven't seen Lestat but I thought Carolee's role was pretty small? I mean, if she's nominated at all (and the woman is brilliant so I'm all for that, even though I haven't seen her yet), wouldn't it be Featured?
Richard Griffiths will be nominated for Leading Actor in a Play for The History Boys, certainly over the likes of Michael Hayden or Paul Rudd.

Griffiths will be. And he won the Evening Standard and the Olivier Awards for his performance.
Very comprehensive list, Thesbijean. Probably the best so far in this thread.
A few questions for you:
You left out Elisabeth Withers-Mendes from THE COLOR PURPLE for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She shines significantly moreso than Felicia Fields. Withers-Mendes gets the most beautiful songs in the show and she more than does them justice. Personally, I can see them both being nominated, but as you said, this is the toughest category.
Also, can you add your predictions for Book & Score?

Carolee was only in the 1st act of Lestat, and then show up again at the finale. I think it's been changed though, and she's in part of 2nd act at least. I'm not sure.
She defintely was the best of the actors in Lestat, she had the best handle on the character. I'd be surprised if she didn't get a nom.
Hugh I'm not sure about. His voice is amazing, but the point that I saw the show, he acting was a tad hit or miss. I did enjoy his performance though.
What are the possibilities for the replacments?

BEST MUSICAL
The Color Purple OR The Drowsy Chaperone
I predict the nominees to be The Color Purple, Jersey Boys, Tarzan, and The Drowsy Chaperone. Tony voters vote with business in mind. Jersey and Color are already hits, Tarzan has the spectacle, and Drowsy Chaperone could be the dark horse, though I'm not sure if it will be as well-received in NY as it was in LA. Jersey and Tarzan will tour well; Purple, I'm not so sure about. Oprah will probably campaign hard through her show and other means, and besides Drowsy, Purple needs the award most in terms of longevity, IMO. Jersey Boys will never win, since the voters are not quite ready to fully embrace the jukebox musical.
BEST SCORE
Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, The Drowsy Chaperone
Mainly I pick this award to go to Drowsy to make up for the fact that Best Musical might go to Purple. Besides, it has the old classy Broadway sound that I'm sure many voters will love.
BEST BOOK
Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, Jersey Boys
It is the book that is the most acclaimed thing from Jersey Boys, and in order to ensure that it continues to sell well for at least the next couple of years, I feel a Tony going to them.
BEST LEADING ACTOR
John Lloyd Young, Jersey Boys
Cerveris already has a Tony (granted for a Featured Actor role). Don't forget Brantley's love letter to Young, as well as all the other praise that has been placed upon him. Voters love fresh young talent.
BEST LEADING ACTRESS
LaChanze, The Color Purple
Same with Ceveris, LuPone already has a Tony. LaChanze is long overdue and delivers a wonderful performance.
BEST FEATURED ACTOR
Manoel Felciano, Sweeney Todd
BEST FEATURED ACTRESS
Elisabeth Withers-Mendes, The Color Purple OR
Beth Leavel, The Drowsy Chaperone OR
Cyndi Lauper, The Threepenny Opera
It could be Purple love, but to still make Drowsy not feel so bad for losing Best Musical, they might give this award to Leavel. Foster is probably going to be considered leading (the writers are beefing up her part). Lauper's performance is supposedly incredible. Definitely the hardest category this year.
BEST COSTUME, LIGHTING, SCENIC DESIGNS
Tarzan (I think...)
BEST REVIVAL
Sweeney Todd
BEST DIRECTOR
John Doyle, Sweeney Todd
Now, once all the spring season shows come out, including their reviews and public opinion, all of this will probably change. It already has within the past couple of hours.
Mark my words, Drowsy will win. It will be one of the last shows Tony Voters will see and it will stay with them.
i recently saw the color purple it sure looks like a tony for this wonderful show

Where does TARZAN have good word of mouth?
It has had ONE preview (I am not saying it won't, but it is too early to tell).
Also, Carolee will be fighting to get into THE toughest race of the year. With Pajama Game, Drowsy Chaperone, Sweeney, and Threepenny with multiple ladies eligible, plus Amy Spanger in Wedding Singer, I don't know where she fits in.
I wish they would just give Chita a lifetime achievement award instead of nominating her in the Best Actress category, which she obviously has no chance in.

I have no clue on who'll win that last one. I don't know anything about Drowsy yet so I don't know who's eligible for what. I think Sutton will be nominated for whichever category she's eligible for.
I'm sure John Doyle (Sweeney) is a lock for director. Both a nom and win. I can't see anyone else getting it.

Well, out of your Best Actors, Harry Connick Jr. will be the only one nommed. John Lyod Young, Josh Striktland, Michael Cervis, and Stephen Linch are not names of ANY actors on the Great White Way.
Sorry, just thought it was a little funny...
I think we have to wait till Threepenny Opera opens before we can say if Sweeney's a lock or not. I don't really see Pajama Game winning over Sweeney.
I've said it before, but I think it's interesting that the 3 Revival candidates will all be more deserving of a Tony than any of the "Best Musical" nominees.

I really think John Slattery should be in the Best Actor in a Play category as opposed to Best Featured. He was the other main character in Rabbit Hole and was an incredibly important character within the story. John's performance was amazing! I know I'm biased but that's not a factor here because he really puts his all into playing Howie Corbett.
But whatever happens, I just hope he gets nominated because John is long overdue for some recognition of his work!!
