Shuler Hensley will get nominated, unless his part is too small, or something. I haven't seen Tarzan, but he is just. that. good. (at everything he does).
.... but, since I'm assuming he's featured (?), he's not winning that Tony.
Of course not, it's Mano's.
Yes. And if it's not....
Those speaking of TARZAN's shoo-in noms, have you actually seen the show?
The performances are beyond sophomoric and nearly embarassing.
It may get a lighting nomination, but the sets are abominable.
Best Musical: Chaparone *
Jersey Boys
TARZAN
The Color Purple
Director Musical: tie
Doyle and Nicolaw (Apples and Oranges)
Musical Actor: Cerveris
(Nothing like this on Bway right now)
Musical Actress: Lu vs. La (who knows)?
Supt. Actor: Burnstein
Mano is great but too much in the background and Danny has paid his dues .
Supt. Actress: Leveal, (one of the funniset mannered perfs I have seen)
just what I think.
please correct my spelling

If you honestly think that Manoel is "too much in the background," you completely missed the point. And, furthermore, if Mano's calculated, nuanced, brilliantly through-out performance can be so gripping, haunting and eye-catching even though he's not as much a part of the central action as some others, that's an even greater testament to how deserving he is.
P.S. -- Cerveris.
If Mano doesn't win featured, I'm not sure I'll ever watch the Tony's again.
Thanks I corrected it
Mano is Fab
But Dano (i feel) will get it
just my opinion
I feel
Dano
as you say
will not even
be nominated
because
he's forgettable
and there's too mu
ch competition
you really
don't make much
sense
and
i don't understand your
reasoning
behind any of
this.
I agree with whoever said that Tarzan should not get a set nomination
Almost every aspect of this musical was completely abysmal... the more I think about it and reflect on it, the worse I think it was
Please, go see this show and form your own opinion--- I have yet to hear from anyone I know that has liked it
Poor Jenn Gambatese! I loooooove her
Oh! Costumes are good... they'll get a nom! There, there's some positivity
Who the heck is Roz Ryan?
Just curious as to why no one thinks that Wedding Singer will get the fourth musical nom over Tarzan. I have tickets for Tarzan in May, but have seen Wedding Singer and found it to be one of the more enjoyable shows in this VERY slow season. And as far as new score...The way things are shaping up, it's looking like Woman in White will get a nom.
I agree that Woman In White will probably get a nom in the score category.

Roz Ryan plays Mabel in PAJAMA GAME. She's been around since the early 80s in several shows and played Effie during the original run of DREAMGIRLS and more recently played Mama Morton in CHICAGO.

I part of my heart just died.
Roz Ryan is without a doubt one of the best live performers I have had the privelage to see.
Oops.
*twiddles thumbs*
THE WOMAN IN WHITE might gets a best score nomination - it's very possible.
I have a Tony trivia question. Has anyone ever been nominated for an acting Tony for playing his/herself? I ask because between Lisa Kron, Chita Rivera and, in a way, Jayne Houdyshell, it's a strong possibility this year.
Good question, Calvin. I'm curious as well.
How is Jayne Houdyshell playing herself?
Have you seen WELL, munk?
Technically, with the way the actors are regarded in that show...(um spoiler I guess)...even she does break character eventually.
Yes, of course I've seen well, but I don't really think she's playing herself in the same sense that Chita and Lisa are.
I can't see either Chita or Lisa getting nominations, but most definitely Jayne.
saw it
Didn't care for it,
But the lead Michael Longoria was excellent.
The other guy was out.

I don't believe any performer has won a competitive Tony for playing themselves, although a couple of them (Ruth Brown in Black & Blue, Nell Carter in Ain't Misbehavin') won for their performances in revues, where while they weren't playing an actual character per se', they were playing a sort of persona of themselves. The Tonys have traditionally given out Special Awards to performers in autobiographical shows and concerts over the years -- Liza, Lena Horne, Diana Ross, Lily Tomlin etc... -- and specifically created the Special Theatrical Event Tony 5 years ago for such shows. It's ludicrous that they've put Chita into a competitive category this year and frankly, it's unfair to her and the other performers in the Best Actress category to be forced to compete against her.
