Emcee, that was so wonderful. I seriously had goosebumps reading it!! I haven't had enough self control to not read reviews, and have been getting nervous about it. After this, I really feel soooo much better. I cannot wait to be able to see this! Thanks for your thoughts!!! :)
Awesome review! Thanks so much...

I cried reading your review. Thank you =)
My biggest hope for this movie was that it, good or bad, preserved the essence of what Rent was supposed to be.
It sounds like it accomplished this purpose, and I know that there will be people who never having seen or heard Rent before will be touchd by it. In the end, that's all I ever wanted for it.
Thank you again. Can't wait to see it.

I am so jealous, it seems like half the board has already seen the film. I've looked everywhere for an advance screening near me, and it looks as though the closest on is in Chicago (an 8 hour trek) on a day when I couldn't go if I wanted to!
I can't wait 10 more days! I feel like I am going to absolutely burst.
Emcee - I had a feeling it was unintentional - made it that much funnier. :)
Great review - you did help restore some faith.
I also completely agree with what you said about the unexpected humor. Half the time I wasn't sure if I was laughing just because I knew a line was supposed to get laughs - because it was funny line on stage. But, the added dialogue proved to be very funny as well, adding a nice lightness. I think one of my favorite lines came from Maureen's mom - if you've seen the movie, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. But, a lot of the stuff I found funny were just simple expressions and looks between the cast. Adam's eye roll in Santa Fe, Mimi's outrageous expressions of shock during TMOLM, were just absolutely priceless.
You know what else is funny about TMOLM? The way the whole group follows them from room to room.

I've been anticipating this review for a while, and it did NOT dissapoint. It made me feel prouder about the film. I just wanted to thank Emcee for the effort
Thanks!!!

What???! A positive review, AND a retraction of a negative review? It's all too much! I'm so excited to see this now.
And extremely jealous of all of you that live in the big cities and get to see it early. :P

Thank you so much for this Em. Your review is the one we have all been waiting for. I'm so glad you liked the movie, and in some way, I think it gives us all hope. I agree with a lot of your opinions, so I have no doubt that I will love this movie. I'm seeing it in the 21st. Although that seems like long wait now, I can't believe that we've been waiting almost a year for this to happen. It's sort of surreal to have this come to fruition. I still can't believe that I'm actually going to see it. It won't hit me until I'm sitting in the theater. I'm sure then I will be an emeotional mess and cry before the movie starts :) Thank you so much for your insightful review. So, when are you seeing it again?

10 days...
ha, sweetestsiren, we had quite an evening.
defying_gravity -- I'm going to the Symphony Space screening on the 22nd. I think it's a good thing to have a buffer zone now, in a way. Let it sink in.

Em, I just sort of skimmed your review (mainly to avoid spoilers - though with the way I've been following this movie, those are few and far between), but yours is one of the BWW opinions I wanted on this film, and I'm very glad to see that you enjoyed the film. We midwesterners generally don't have the luxury of advance screenings, so I've still got a little over a week to wait.
I'm glad to experience was ultimately positive for you. After I see the movie myself, I'll read your report fully.
Em, how was the audience's response?
As wonderful as I was expecting Em. And I'm glad you took a beat to wait and didn't feel the pressure to write it as soon as you got home last night, treasured the experience for yourself. And I'm soo happy the movie was what you really wanted it to be on your own standards, personality quirk and all. You know I've been avoiding all reviews/spoilers but of course I had to read all of yours, I knew from months ago I'm going to love this movie and I still know I will. I'm so excited for the 22nd. I agree to an extent that the making of the film has captivated me through the year and it does feel like a journey, and viewing it will be the climax of that journey. But your journey was even more involved and personal than mine, so I'm so glad the climax lived up to it.
BTW just realized, any comments on Taye? He's the one person you didn't comment on.
Fantabulous:
The audience laughed. They cried. And they clapped. It was funny to have a compulsion to clap, and then realize that you weren't supposed to. But there is a BRILLIANT comedic moment with Angel after New Year's Eve, and everyone clapped.
wrq -- Taye's part is very obviously smaller than everyone else's, but it IS bigger than it is in the movie. He sings better than he used to, but we knew that from the soundtrack. Obviously, the emotion his character displays is less, but it's there, as is the development of his relationship with Mimi. Excellent as well, of course.

wow em, that was great! i feel so much better after reading this review! (i read it all, and got chills many times) thanks for the review, only a week and a half til i see it!!
it seems you had a better audience than I did. Quite a couple immature folks who snickered and laughed at inappropriate times - I just wanted to throw popcorn at their heads.
What did they do, Fantabulous?
They snickered and laughed at inappropriate times. Some were just those really enthusiastic fans you want to avoid the first time you see the movie so you can just enjoy it. They started clapping along with the cast during SOL. And someone yelled out "Yes!" at the end when Mimi wakes up. Someone sitting next to me had to shout out "Shut up" to them in the middle of the movie because they were just being really obnoxious.
God, I hate those kind of people. What's the point of going to a movie if you are just going to talk and mess around the whole time?
I almost got up before the movie and made a "please don't moo" announcement. But nobody mooed.
