I just looked her up on YouTube and picked out this song, because it is one of those ultimate tests for a singer. If she screamed, I would agree with the OP. If she over-riffed, I would agree. If she violated the spirit of the song to make herself look special as a singer, I would agree with him.
But she does none of those things. She sings it simply and prettily. I think she's very talented and I like her.
She is young. I think before she was not used to "preserving" her voice if that makes sense. She is still probably training it and finding ways to keep her stamina up. I'm sure with this she is working hard to find the spot the part sits in her voice and work out the kinks. Elphaba is definitely one of the most demanding roles for an actress, but with training, she will be fine.
"Life in theater is give and take...but you need to be ready to give more then you take..."
"You guys make it seem like this is the first cast announcement that people have bashed just based on their previous performances. You guys make it seem like this is the first cast announcement that people have bashed just based on their previous performances."
You make it seem like you were the first person called out for it...
I'll admit I'm largely unfamiliar with her work, but I think she's fantastic in this video. I'd love to see what she does with Elphaba...I think if nothing else she'll definitely make some different choices than the women who have played the part previously. She's certainly a capable enough actress. "Anyway"
I would agree she has pipes. But not elephaba pipes.
However , I've seen her at concerts and benefits around town over the years and she's always obnoxious , takes away From her (obvious) talent. I'm going to give her a respectful pass.
I think, when healthy, she'll be great in the role. But as others have mentioned, she'll be out a lot.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Whoops ... I'm driving up from NC to see it in VA. I'm mainly going for Alison Fraser as Morrible, and Nick Adams as Fiyero doesn't hurt either. Was honestly looking forward to seeing Alilison Luff in the role, but, I've I watched some videos of Emma on YouTube ... Interested to see what she does with it.
