Scarlett would have been my first choice. I really happen to like her singing voice.
Yes! Scarlett would have been perfect.
I think Amanda Bynes would be a very interesting (and unexpected) choice. Granted, she may have no interset in it, but she could do it. It would be quite the comeback...
The best part about Amanda Bynes is that she wouldn't have to drive in New York City.
I still want a Sweet Charity revival with Emma Stone
I'm more interested in their choices for Cliff, Schultz, and Schneider. Any insight?

I think Amanda Bynes doing one show a week, let alone eight, is just wishful thinking at this point.
Roundabout likely knows if they get Hathaway, they'll have a huge hit in their books. Stone, not so much, nor is she capable of doing the role. But who knows if this rumor is anywhere near being true. And likely on Monday, someone else's name will be thrown into the mix. But one(or two) things that are for sure is that Roundabout is looking for a name to play Sally & Alan Cumming will return at the Emcee.

Why do you think Stone isn't capable of doing the role?
I actually think she could be quite good. I'm on board.
I also think she'd make a brilliant Charity in Sweet Charity.
Love the idea of Stone as Charity *and* Sally. I agree that at first I was a little doubtful but the more I think about it, the more sense it'd make. Though I can't imagine this is true, it'd sure be a hell of a lot of pressure to make a Broadway debut in CABARET but maybe she's up to the challenge. I really really would love for Scarlett Johansson to play it, she'd be out of the world and I also thinks he has a cool singing voice, Jordan.

I think Stone is too old but I like her energy for the part. It doesn't matter if she can belt like Minnelli since Minnelli was actually not right for the role at all.
I see Sally as a waif-ish young girl in way over her head, playing grown up and not realizing the repercussions until it's too late.

I guess I just can't see this happening. From what I've heard, she has a lot of vocal problems and issues with her voice getting tired while on press tours for her movies (I read somewhere she has vocal nodes), so I don't know if she'd be able to keep up with singing eight times a week.
Is this the Mendes staging? If it is, I can't really imagine her singing the title song. I am a fan of hers, but I think of her acting as rather limited. Maybe she'd surprise me, but would she be able to play an effective emotional breakdown like that?
Can Jessica Chastain sing? I'd love to see her play Sally, if it's a movie star they're going for.

Ailene Quinn, that girl has lived.
She has as much of a voice as former Sallys Jill Haworth, Judi Dench, and Natasha Richardson. Sally isn't supposed to be a great singer.
as thebeautyis elaborated, Stone has voice issues beyond not being a great singer: she has said in interviews that she was a colicky baby, screamed for something like 6 months straight and developed nodes. That's why her speaking voice sounds the way it does, and she's prone to losing her voice from things that wouldn't really be considered stressful to others.
It sounds like such a strange rumor that it's probably not true, but it's fun to speculate anyway. I don't think she has been in anything that requires her to stretch herself to the level of Sally, but in the work she has done so far she has become consistent, relaxed and magnetic.
Jessica Chastain might be good but for some reason it doesn't excite me the way say Johansson, Nina Arianda, or Lauren Ambrose. I'd be more in for Chastain if the long rumored (but surely dead) movie musical remake ever happened.
Nina Arianda has been suggested on all different media around the internet and I am so down for that. But I'm down for her starring in pretty much anything.
My first vote is also Nina Arianda, but I'd also like to suggest Carey Mulligan.
(Any chance Nina Arianda could play Moll in Off Center's Cradle Will Rock this summer?)
I still think Hathaway would've made a brilliant Sally. All of the names that people are suggesting could work as well, but I really can't picture any of them in the role. I think Sally needs to be a diva and I wouldn't call most of today's hollywood starlets, divas. If we're going with big names I'd rather have a pop star than an actress, someone with a bigger than life personality. The only other actress I think would be spectacular is Catherine Zeta Jones. I'm surprised no one has mentioned her.
JC..."I'd like to see Reese Witherspoon do it. I mean, she's been on COPS and everything. Bitch has LIVED"...BRILLIANT! LOL

I'm going to wait until this is official. I got too excited about Hathaway playing the role and then it turned out not to be true.
In the Berlin Stories, she was 19 but he thought she was in her 20s. So Emma Stone isn't too far-fetched of a choice.
As much as I like Emma Stone, I'd rather not have to listen to her lisp her way through the show. She has that lazy speech lisp where she speaks through her front teeth and it gets a little grating.
Anne Hathaway is perfect for the role. Scarlett? Too sexy. I do think she has the right kind of smoky voice for the part, though. And she sings with the dead-eyed look a la Katherine McPhee so that could work...maybe.

They will post speculation and pr about every A-List movie actress around....and then hire someone decidedly b-list.
I'd like to see Elena Roger's Sally.
