completely underwhelming
Fiorello - yaaawwwwnnn; it's been done and it was just OK. I look forward to the other two, but only if they do the original scores and orchestrations, like they say they do.
I wonder if the gala is part of the season or a separate ticket?
Regarding Superman, I'm hoping less for the original score and everything remounted, and hoping more that the ACTUAL "revised version" that keeps getting shut down and censored/genericized by DC actually goes up this time.
Wasn't there a production a few years ago that intended to do this, restoring the actual DC characters like Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olsen, etc. instead of their generic replacements, but DC wouldn't let it happen?
Superman is exciting, but I actually prefer the revised Dallas Theater Center version that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wrote. It would have been neat if that production had made it to Broadway.
THAT'S the version I meant! But I want to see it the way it was SUPPOSED to be, not the version that DC forced upon him instead.
I don't exactly understand why they allow Superman and Lois Lane, but none of the other characters to appear. It's painfully obvious who the other characters in the show are meant to be, but for whatever reason, DC is really stingy about those character properties.
Fiorello. Why? Saw it 20 years ago.
On Your Toes I'm curious to see who they will get for the lead. But they will have my subscription dollars again.

To be fair I was 8 years old and didn't live in the city when they first presented "Fiorello" and I would very much like to see a production. I understand there are subscribers out there who have "been tehre, done that" but I bet you a lot more people haven't seen it. 20 years is the right amount of time for a revival of a show so why shouldn't Encores do revivals of their more popular/best selling shows every so often. It's not like they're doing repeat after repeat.
Very strange choices for an anniversary season. I was hoping for INTO THE LIGHT, RAGGEDY ANN and HOME SWEET HOMER.
Have they even done HALLELUJAH, BABY!? That's one I would like to see in a City Centers Encores setting. I love that score.

I'm excited for FIORELLO. It's one of those shows I've always wanted to see, and hopefully this will be my chance.
I have never seen It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Supermam or Fiorello but love their scores. I'd love to see productions of both.
They never really seem to do the epic flops, and the ones they do choose always have some pedigree.
I don't think they'll ever do something like Raggedy Ann or Home Sweet Homer.
Which is a shame. I would LOVE to see them to Udell and Geld's Angel though.
Fiorello is a curious choice, and On Your Toes is a waste of a slot. Nothing against the show, but it's been done a ton of times.
The York did Superman as a Mufti several years ago. In a genius casting move, Lea DeLaria played the villain. I hope it happens again.

I've also heard that Encores has been working on Brigadoon, so I was expecting that for next season.
Somewhat off-topic, but are there any plans to revise the summer Encores! format? Doesn't look possible this year, but next perhaps?
Should they, Brigadoon seems like a good choice.

do you think Brigadoon has the appeal to be brought back for three weeks? seems the summer shows have all had some sort of commercial feel, but Brigadoon is so traditional it'd be a surprise to me if they mounted it as the summer piece.
that being said, I'd love to see it!
Is this the Nathan Lane FIORELLO?
I saw the last Broadway revival of On Your Toes, and it was fantastic. Of course it had much of the Balanchine choreography, which helped a lot. The cast was first-rate, too. Natalia Makarova (Best Actress Tony), Lara Teeter, Christine Andreas, Dina Merrill, George S. Irving, and George De La Pena. And the Rodgers & Hart score is terrific.
I was hoping for Legs Diamond. Just cuz.
I'm excited for FIORELLO! I've never seen a production, it's rarely put on anywhere, and I love the score. Also, it doesn't seem like a strange choice to me, wasn't it one of the shows they did in their first season? It makes sense to me for them to do it for their anniversary. I'm curious to see who'll they'll cast.

I can understand the rational with the Fiorello selection in that that was the first show they did 20 years ago. Nathan Lane for Fiorello?
I also like the Superman choice -- Cheyenne for the title role (in tights, of course)?
My only caveat is On Your Toes -- not that I don't like the show (I do), but it requires two major dance numbers (actually ballets). Will there be sufficient space to do them justice?
@Ed_Mottershead
I think if Encores can do On The Town they shouldn't have any problem with either Slaughter on 10th Avenue or Princess Zenobia from On Your Toes. They can be very clever with the stage and orchestra.

Also, I'm assuming they'll pull some name ballet stars to do the female lead and her Russian co-star (can't rememember the name of the character). How about John Selya for the Ray Bolger role? He can sing well enough and God knows he can dance the crap out of it!
