They think BILLY will win 9 awards.

and tehy think N2N could play spoiler in a few as well. Which I'm crossing my fingers for.

I read this a couple (one?) days ago and meant to post it but forgot.

I know it may not be the biggest category by any means, but I think that next to normal should win for orchestrations. they are amazing.

9 is what I've been predicting for BE, but i think it could be as few as 6

especially if the anti-sweep occurs and N2N grabs book and score and directing goes to hair.

I saw this last night. I personally think Billy will win 12. I know for theatre awards, we really shouldn't look at other awards groups for influence, but Greg Jbara and Haydn Gwynne have won every single one of them (if I'm not mistaken). So really, if they didn't win the Tonys, it would look like an upset. I also think it will win Best Score. I'm thinking they might reward Tom Kitt in the Orchestrations category if anything.

I totally and completely think it could tie THE PRODUCERS with the most wins and sweep with 12. That is certainly a possibility.

A clean sweep will be apparent from the pre-show. If Billy wins Costume Design, it's done. I think it was on Time Out New York's predictions that they said that Billy truly deserves to win for its costumes, but Shrek will probably win. If Billy wins for costumes, that will be a shock!

Not gonna happen. The Producers was a run away train that didn't have any legitimate competition in a lot of categories. BE DOES, especially in Score, Director, orchestrations and costumes and set

N2N will win best score, and Alice will best best actress. They should win best orchestration because they have a small band (6 pieces) and it sounds huge. They should also win best book but I doubt they will.

I don't understand why everyone loves the costumes from Shrek. They're just recreations of the costumes from the film. Some of them are certainly creative, but in terms of original designs there are few. I wouldn't vote for Shrek.

usually the most costume intensive show wins though cats. its like with the oscars, usually the big period piece with elaborate dresses wins. If its not shreak, it should be ROA. the costumes were far and away the best part of ROA.

ZONEACE, who do you think is Billy's competition for Scenic Design? If Shrek or 9 to 5 were nominated, I would think either of them would win, but since they aren't, Billy is the clear frontrunner I'd say.

Robert Brill with Guys and Dolls. I think it stands a legitimate shot at grabbing Scenic Design

Fair enough. Haven't seen Guys and Dolls (or Pal Joey for that matter), but I haven't heard too many praises about its set. In fact, I've heard more negatives than positives. But who knows, crazier things have happened. I was hoping (and really did think) that High Fidelity had a shot a couple years ago. :)

BE not winning sets not that likely, but its defintely one of the vulnerable awards int he event of an anti-sweep

I too thought Rock of Ages's costumes were great. Very clever, creative, thoughtful, functional. My brother also liked the costumes, but for very different reasons (he was my straight +1).

How have Billy's sets been doing technically? I know at least as late as April 18, they were still having to stop the show for technical aspects of the set not working (that night it was the kitchen table not going down). If that happened when voters were there, that could I would think enter into their judgment.

The sets worked without a problem when I saw it, but that was back in December.

Ugh. The sooner these awards are over with and I can get BE out of my life, the better. There are so many other deserving shows in the same categories as it that will lose because the Tonys are so biased and unfair (ie. URINETOWN losing to MILLIE).

BILLY ELLIOT is hardly the WICKED or MILLIE in this situation. There's a big difference...BILLY is much better than both of those shows; especially MILLIE which lost to the infinitely superior URINETOWN. N2N is not infinitely superior, IMO. They're both on about the same level.

I'm really starting to believe there's going to be a book/score split again this year.

ColorTheHours, that's fine, but you're probably in the minority. Many people on this site dislike the show, but I think within the theatre community, there is a whole lot of Billy Elliot love (the Drama Desk sweep and the number of Tony nominations is evidence). There are years where I think the winner shouldn't have won at all (In the Heights and Spamalot come to mind), but we have to all embrace it whether we like it or not.
