Ever love a show so much, after it closed you think about it every now and then, and get sad you'll never get to see it again? I know it may make me seem weird, but for me that show is Gentlemens Guide.
Hedwig and the Deaf West Revival of Spring Awakening. Both shows meant a lot to me and helped me through some personal rough times. I miss them dearly.
The original Les Miserables. Rent. If Great Comet were in any other theater, I would have seen it already. But I know it will be sad to see the Imperial so drastically transformed. Alas, when I found out Oak was joining, that was enough to get me to try it.
As much as I miss rent, it did need to close or have a Les Miz-style mass firing because it was so sloppy toward the end. But I prefer sloppy rent to no rent.
Passing Strange. I miss it and Daniel Breaker's performance so much every time I think about it that it's almost difficult for me to listen to the score! (Mary! I know)
Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco.
Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!
No. One of live theatre's great beauties is its ephemeral quality - no performance will ever happen exactly the same way a second time. It's your special experience, that you can replay in your mind whenever you like.
What I find sad is a show that's merely a machine, replicated perfectly night after night.
^My thoughts exactly. What I cherish most is the memories I have of the experience. I've certainly been sad to see shows close....but not overly so....and never in a "forever" sort of way.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I don't know that I miss the show itself so much (with cast albums you can try to relive the experience) but I wish you could see a show for the first time again and fall in love with it all over. For me those shows would be Hedwig and Falsettos
