What about Sarah Jessica Parker? She may be getting a bit old but I heard her in ONCE UPON A MATTRESS and think she could prove perfect for a short run and would be a reasonably big draw.
"Your eyes..... they shine like the pants on my blue serge suit"
Tari Kelly is absolutely fantastic. She is so wonderful in everything she does. She was a fierce Audrey in the national tour of LITTLE SHOP. If she would have originated the role on Broadway, she would have most definitely been nominated for a Tony.
This thread again!!! As most said last time around - only a STAR (that is one known to the world outside of BWW) would be cast in a revival. It is a star vehicle and requires one to bring in the bucks. These names everyone knows here - Stephanie Block, Leslie, et al are wonderful possibilities, but enough to risk millions on?
Well, STEPHANIE J. BLOCK of course to me is the BEST for FUNNY BRICE...but I'm very partical. Those who know who I am can figure this statement out. BIG SMILE
Thanks pc1145 ! I've seen her do that show several times, and this is her show...just as though it was written for her. But as I said before I'm very partical. SMILE. But truly...she gets standing O's just about after every song and that's no hipe.
Did you hear Parker as Winnifred in ONCE UPON A MATTRESS?
She couldn't sing the role of Fanny Brice in a million years.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Forget the fact she can't sing the role. Nothing about her suggests that she would work as Fanny Brice, and I'm a HUGE fan of her work. She would have made a fabulous Charity Hope Valentine in the SWEET CHARITY revival though.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Agreed, Lady Italy--it's a great role for Steph, and a role for which she would be great.
(And, hey, in August Billy Stritch pulled out his wallet and said he'd start the fund to revive the show with her as Fanny; that's good enough for me!)
