Just saw this show up on BWW: Breaking: FALSETTOS Will Launch National Tour in 2019!
It was just on PBS not long ago. Will this sell even though the production has already been filmed? It doesn't seem like other popular shows (Like Phantom) where people might want to see it again and again.

Posted: 2/6/18 at 4:12pmI see it being non equity and travling every where for a year then launching a international tour. Nothing against Non equity tho.

You are making a broad assumption that most of the audience who see this show on stage watched the broadcast. Also, with the way theater is presented on the road, the show will most likely be part of a subscription series, so it doesn't matter. Also, recent recordings have been shown to increase the visibility of a show, so the broadcast can easily have served as (an expensive) advertisement for the live production.

Oh, I'm sure it will be Equity and have a cast of fairly well-known musical theater actors in it. I'm assuming it's probably crazy cheap to tour/produce. I mean it looked like sh*t on Broadway, so I'm sure they'll make a ton of money out of this either way.

Thats why I thought it would be non. Cause the sets looked cheap and usually non equity tours travel to way much more places on such a short time frame

Naw, given the pedigree of the producers and the fact that it's not really a show that would sell to most markets, I think it would be like Caroline, Or Change and hit some big markets, and be done with it. Why it's touring is kind of beyond me, but whatever they want to do, I guess!

I'm also thinking it will be equity given that it's Lincoln Center and I can't recall if they've ever done a non-equity tour. Light In The Piazza toured and was filmed

"Falsettos" is such a small show to be going in such HUGE theatres, it will get lost in them.
At the same time, Signature Theatre in Arlington is doing a new production next season in their 300+ seat theatre and, considering their track record, it should be excellent.

Omg! People who care about the show enough, will see it. Do you know the cast? Because I would want to see it!

Probably because it was an incredible show and was cheap to produce; this show deserved a wider audience. It was such a shame Christian departed this show for the truly awful ‘Charlie...’

You make it sound like Christian left the show early to do Charlie. That wasn't the case. Falsettos was from the start a limited run. He was able to do both because Charlie started after Falsettos run was over.
As for me, I'm glad it's touring. However, the part that sucks is that the small intimate show that this is will get lost in bigger touring houses. However, this won't be the first time something like this has happened. Touring houses are generally much bigger than those on Broadway and there have been other smaller intimate shows that have toured in such venues. Avenue Q and Once come to mind right away.

That is the upside to living in a smaller town (Wilmington, DE). It may take us a while to get shows (sometimes until they go non-equity), and shows like the original Phantom can't break even to justify the work to put the shows in. (We did get the original Le Mis several times, which "just fit" the stage). However, we have a 1,200 seat theater so shows are more intimatete. It was built in 1913 so its even the same vintage/feel of the Broadway theaters (though perhaps a bit simpler in decoration). Years ago they gave backstage tours and the guide mentioned how performs liked the theater because it wasn't such a barn.

Does anyone remember how the tour played in the 1990s?
I'd surely see this at least once maybe twice on tour. Loved the broadway production and have been obsessed with the music for years so any chance to see it live is a yes!

Does anyone else find Fayetteville, Arkansas an interesting choice for the first stop of the tour?

Tours tech wherever they can get the best bang for their buck. If a tour needs to launch in Fayetteville to be profitable, especially a short tour like this, then so be it.
