Arthur Laurents is spinning in his grave. Of course, he's always doing that, but today he wants the OP to know that "Rose's Turn" is NOT the finale of GYPSY.
I think "You Can't Stop the Beat" is as good a comic final number as one could want. And in the category of best dramatic final number, I'd vote for "Make Our Garden Grow".
As for a memorable final scene and corny as it may be, very few move me as much as the last scene in THE MUSIC MAN.
And for funniest final scene, I vote for LI'L ABNER.

The new Pippin finale is absolutely haunting, as well as that of the 1998 Cabaret production. Grey Gardens and next to normal have extremely emotional finales. RENT, Hedwig and In the Heights have finales that always bring me to tears too, but those shows have a very personal meaning to me, so I understand that some people might not feel that way.

The first one that came to mind for me was Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.

Maybe not the best, but the GODSPELL finale leaves me in tears every. single. time. Without fail.

Though I don't think it's my all-time favorite ending, I really loved the end of If/Then.
And on a more positive note, I think the finale for The Drowsy Chaperone is perfect and delightful.

definitely "cabaret/finale" from Cabaret!
chills, everytime! It's like a slap in the face!
Also "Midnight Radio" from Hedwig

Les Mis, Sunday in the park, In The Heights,Being Alive from Company, and the end of Rent, which almost made me me cry. You all are getting all the good ones. How about also Brotherhood of Man from How to Succeed, the end of Children of Eden which sticks out to me for some reason, and the end of Evita, just because I thought it was creepy?

I don't really like the show itself, but the finale to A CHORUS LINE is about the most dazzling thing ever.
Also, CABARET didn't always end the way it ends at Studio 54. It used to be, and in the licensed version I believe still is, a collage of snippets of dialogue, ending with Sally's final refrain of "Cabaret" fading away, and the Emcee bidding the audience goodnight. Far less of a coupe de theatre, but just as chilling if you think about it-- even if it doesn't sound as cool.
I like endings that are endings, not tap-happy, pasted on salutes to the leading lady (sorry After Death). I also like quieter endings, which is why I also love the ending of SHE LOVES ME.

Shockingly I still have yet to see the '98 revival version of CABARET, but for the record I've always found the original finale on the OBC to be quite chilling.

It also, I believe, involved the mirror tilting to reflect the audience. That used to be enough to make people uncomfortable back then.
(Oh, who am I kidding? I think the Mendes ending is brilliant, too,)

"You Can't Stop The Beat"- Hairspray
"Midnight Radio"- Hedwig. I mean who doesn't love a good Broadway diva bettering her face off as your finale!?

Talk of chilling/uncomfortable endings made me think of Assasins. Thought that was a great ending - and made me uncomfortable.

The finale in the recent Vienna revival of Tanz der Vampire was great whenever Graf von Krolock rose from the ground surrounded by a circle of his vampire followers.
Les Misérables also comes to mind.

This is possibly a bit left field, but I'm very partial to the closing number in Jane Ayre. A really delicious number.
Why don't you go? Why don't you leave Manderley? He doesn't need you... he's got his memories. He doesn't love you, he wants to be alone again with her. You've nothing to stay for. You've nothing to live for really, have you?

I've always thought Emily Grishman's work was the best of all the Broadway copyists working in Finale. Very clear, readable scores without a lot of excess junk on the page. James Stenborg also does very nice work.
