I love the one in Phantom of the Opera. The one in wicked is also great.

Ragtime - Simply beautiful.
Miss Saigon - The minute that overture starts and crescendos, it gives me chills. Not to mention that I love "Dreamland"
Company - So humorous, so energetic, so perfect.
Titanic.
Starting with 'How Did They Build the Titanic?' and ending with 'Godspeed Titanic', it's amazing.
Tarzan. The rest of the show never lived up to it.
I had goosebumps in Tarzan.
And Phantom is a classic as well.

The first ten minutes of "The Lion King" is just beautiful.

"42nd Street... the overture sliding into the dancing feet and the entire first number."
This was my first thought as well. When the curtain rises only enough to see those feet just tapping away you can't help but be impressed.
Lion King
what about Fiddler on the Roof?
I would have to agree that Ragtime's opening sequence is great!
Nothing beats 42nd STREET in my mind. So simple, so exciting, so completely classic Broadway.
It gave me chills every time I saw the revival. Phenomenal!

I really love the opening from FAME. Its not the best but I enjoy it. That being said the best opening in my opinion is the opening 20 minutes from Les Mis. From Loow Down, to Valjeans whole monolouge thing into the priest and ending with What Have I Done? sends chills up my spine.

Tommy...entire war backstory told without any words.
My favorite opening is ACL.
I also love Hello Dolly's opening ... its such a great set-up for Dolly's entrance on the trolley when she lowers the newspaper, and when it was Ethel Merman playing Dolly, the anticipation was incredible.
A Chorus Line
The Light in the Piazza
The Wedding Singer
Hairspray...it was my favorite and first Broadway show. When the light hit Tracy and you hear the drum beats "DO DOOO DO! DO DOOO DO!" then the silouettes(sp?)...Excites me!

A Chorus Line - my favourite part of the show!
Fame - Love the audition sequence when done well.
Billy Elliot - Stars Look Down, shivers...
We Will Rock You - when it goes black and all you can see is flashing lights from the badges. Radio Ga Ga is so amazing to watch, everyody in perfect time together, love it!
-Wicked (No One Mourns the Wicked) for some reason I always get goosebumps during those opening notes
-The Last Five Years (Still Hurting)
-Legally Blonde (Omigod, you guys!)
-The Lion King (The Circle of Life)
-The Wedding Singer (It's Your Wedding Day)
Definitely THE CAROUSEL WALTZ, which establishes the meeting of Billy and Julie.
For some reason, I also like MISS SAIGON's opening. I just get this impending sense of doom... right before Lea Salonga and company strip and get ready for their customers...
