Pigalles was great as was Chez Josphine
I will have to give 5 Napkin Burger a shot in the next week or so.
For something a bit more upscale but not outrageous check out The Glass House Tavern on W. 47th near the Brooks Atkinson. They'll serve you items from the lunch menu at night which can reduce costs and everything there is delicious. On Wednesdays and Saturdays a lot of cast members from neighboring theatres are in there between shows.
With Becco you can never go wrong.

I almost don't want to reveal my two favorites because no one's mentioned them yet and I wouldn't want an invasion.
El Centro - a little bit out of the way at 54th & 9th, but seriously the best Mexican food in Manhattan (for a reasonable price, anyway - Rosa Mexicano's good too but I sure can't afford it often). They have a zillion kinds of margarita, all of which are very tasty, if not the cheapest. I've seen a few Broadway actors there too.
HB Burger - on 43rd just east of Times Square, next to its parent restaurant, Heartland Brewery. I've only been to the main restaurant a couple of times and found it overpriced and overrated, but the smaller (new?) burger joint is fantastic. They have all the Heartland beers and every kind of burger you could want (beef, veggie, turkey, bison), for decent NY prices. It's addictive, beware!
Trattoria Trecolori right next to the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Amazing Italian food!!!!
Although VYNL has good food, I tend to think of it more of a place for drinks... because their drinks are amazing.
1) Eatery on 53rd & 9th...their Mac'n Jack is so freaking good when you add bacon to it! And their cocktail menu is fantastic.
2) Room Service on 47th & 9th...really great Thai food for really great prices. And the restaurant is decorated beautifully with chandeliers, mirrors, and old picture frames.
3) Empanada Mama on 51st & 9th...love this place! Who doesn't love a meal of empanadas with fantastic guacamole? Paired with a pitcher of sangria and dessert empanadas to close it out.
4) Redeye Grill on 56th & 7th...very pricey and a little farther north, but damn...amazing seafood.
5) Vynl on 51st & 9th...great food, great turkey meatloaf, reasonable prices, a Dolly Parton themed bathroom, and cute boys. What more could you want out of a dining experience?
6) The Burger Joint on 56th between 7th & 6th inside the Parker Meridian Hotel...if you don't have a lot of time to eat and you want a burger, bag of fries, and a drink for $13.00, then go to The Burger Joint. It's a hidden place behind the front desk. Just follow the curtain along the wall and look for the neon sign of a hamburger. It's cash only and the burgers are so good!
7) Havana Central on 46th between 7th & 6th...Cuban food! They have fantastic mojitos (the pina colada is my favorite) and the food is pretty authentic. If you go then order the mango salmon!
Arriba! Arriba! on 51st & 9th...this may be one of my top two favorite mexican places in NYC. Sure, you pay $18 for their largest sized margarita, but it sure is worth it! They have a chicken entree with a mole sauce that I want to eat right now.
9) Rosa Mexicano on 62nd & Columbus Ave...if you're seeing South Pacific, a show at The Met, or the ballet I strongly suggest this place. This is my other favorite mexican place in Manhattan. It's a little pricey, but it's worth it. They have crab empanadas that will change your life and the best enchilada suizas I've ever had. And they serve a pineapple cinnamon margarita. Enough said.
10) 5 Napkin Burger on 45th & 9th...yes, everyone on these boards is right. This place is so great. You may be spending close to $20.00 on a hamburger, but there's a reason this place is always packed.
wonderwall, Empanada Mama is sooooo good and cheap. Its super small and sometimes hard to get a table, but the food can't be beat!!!

"Mexican Restaurant? You mean Chevy's?"
I guess so. My dad just kept calling it the "Mexican restaurant" while looking for it.
Lol. I never understand why someone would go to Juniors and places like that when they could walk two blocks west and pay a third of the price for twice the amount of food.
From time to time I treat my mother to a show for Christmas or her birthday and we pretty much always go to Junior's afterward. She has special dietary needs and some of the nicer restaurants don't cater to that. She is HIGHLY lactose intolerant. Many places literally drench their food in special sauces that have milk or cream in them. And even if you tell the waitstaff about her issue there is still the risk. She likes Junior's because she knows she can eat there safely. It's a whole lot better than being sick for a hour+ train ride.
More restaurants cater to people who are diabetic or vegan than people who are lactose intolerant.
Anything on 9th Avenue! I second whoever said Empanada Mama. And I love Nizza (next to 5 napkin) for the food, drinks and (broadway) stargazing. Zigolinis Pizza Bar just opened up (9th btwn 46th & 47th) and it is amazing!

Haven't gone post-show, but pre-show I always go to one of the following:
Schnipper's (great salads)
Smith's Bar/Restaurant (really good wraps)
Westway Diner (saw John Gallagher, Jr. there in early June)
Edison Cafe (matzoh ball soup can't be beat, but salads are blah. I often see well-known actors there)
Cosmic Diner (if I'm going to 54 or New World)
Bon appetit!

Ellen's Stardust Diner. Hands down.

I agree with Ellen's Stardust Diner 100% Great place to go if you're with a group of friends, but something you may want to avoid if you're with a group that likes a quieter setting at the end of the night.
Also, there's a place kitty corner to the Majestic Theater. It's a bit pricey, but every time I've gone to see Phantom of the Opera with a family member willing to foot the bill, I've had a great time. I'm not sure what it's called, but I believe it's on the second floor of the building across the street and at the corner of the Majestic.
Also, there's a Shake Shack opening up on 43rd & 8th soon. Once that opens...GO. THERE!
And maybe I'm negatively biased because I sometimes work there, but...I hate Ellen's lol
I, too, am excited for the theatre district Shake Shack. I love visiting their Madison Square Park location when the weather is nice.
Also, not the healthiest option, but I do love a good Crumbs cupcake after a show. Or before. Depends on how much money I have to spend.
