"it's important to point out that being having a mental illness and having a superior brain are FAR from mutually exclusive. Someone can be mentally ill and also be incrdibly intelligent, creative, and charismatic."

First of all, yes, often the mentally ill have genius IQ's, as did my sister. Second of all, I think you're trying to explain mental illness to the wrong person, but thank you. Third of all, referring to this thread topic, The Elephant Man is not a play about mental illness.

That's one of my favorite musicals.

Mine as well, when done properly it can be quite heartbreaking and inspiringg at the same time. I really don't think the last rivival quite did it.

Mary Poppins.  The way she would flip on those kids and then cut-and-run in the end was classic borderline personality disorder.  Always hated that bitch.

Of Mice and Men. Though is being mentally challenged the same as mental illness?

I'm fairly certain at some point in the future the film "A Beautiful Mind" will be made into a straight play or musical, That would be a definitive choice.
