Obnoxious. And if I spelled it wrong, at least I'm a bit closer.

"Sunny Side to Every Situation" from 42nd Street (more hopeful, I guess)
"On My Own" from Les Miserables
"Mr. Cellophane" from Chicago
"Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from Phantom of the Opera

I think anyone who has seen WICKED or heard the OBC knows that Defying Gravity is not a "sad" song. But to call it obnoxious, is rediculous!
The only thing obnoxious on these boards is how everyone puts down anything to do with WICKED.
You don't sell out an almost 1800 seat theater every night with obnoxious songs. But speaking of obnoxious, "It sucka sucka etc..."

Now what was the question?? Oh yeah, favorite sad songs.
For Good!!!

Whenever I hear Stephanie Mills singing "I wish I was Home" or "Home" from The Wiz I get sad. It's like hearing Over The Rainbow sung by Judy Garland. My grandmother needs a tissue every time she sings that song....anyway, yeah those from The Wiz

and "For Good" we used as our graduation song this year at High School (our music teacher adapted it and asked Mr. Shwartz (sp) if we could use it and he said yes :)) so that's a sad song too

"Children & Art" - SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
"Aldonza" - MAN OF LA MANCHA
"Written in the Stars" - AIDA
"Eva's Final Broadcast" - EVITA
"No One Is Alone" - INTO THE WOODS
"Be On Your Own" - NINE

and, in my opinion, the saddest song ever written for the musical theatre -

"Michael Furey" - JAMES JOYCE'S THE DEAD

"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."

I have lots:
Camelot: "I Loved You Once In Silence"
Les Mis: "I Dreamed A Dream," "On My Own," "A Little Fall Of Rain" and "Empty Chairs At Empty Tables"
CATS: "Memory" (it is NOT a love song, people!!)
LSOH: the reprise of "Somewhere That's Green"
Zanna Don't: "Do You Know What It's Like?"
B&TB: "If I Can't Love Her"
Rocky Horror: "I'm Going Home"
Elegies: "My Dogs" (the only track on the CD that makes me cry)
RENT: "I'll Cover You Reprise"
Into The Woods: "No One Is Alone" (well, it's more a mix of sad and hopeful)
A Little Night Music: "Send In The Clowns"
Avenue Q: "There's A Fine Fine Line"
Riverdance "Caoneidh Cu Cuchulainne" and "Lift The Wings"

Although I do like Wicked, we are here to disagree. That's what makes everything here so interesting.

NYBroadwayNY, selling out the house has nothing to do with good writing. Get a clue. and "For Good" always makes me laugh. Were else can I hear such lyrics as...

"Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes a sun... Like a stream that meets a boulder halfway through the wood..."

"Like a ship blown off its mooring by a wind off the sea... Like a seed dropped by a bird in the wood"...

Guess what! There are words other than wood that rhyme with good... I'm sorry, but I break into hysterics every time....
