Posted: 8/23/04 at 11:58pmI agree with you Millie. But is seems that WICKED has become the scape goat or whipping boy or whatevey analogy you want to give it. EVERYONE seems to put it down around here.

That's because Wicked sucks.

Almost every song from Les Mis and
"I Should Tell You" and "Without You" from RENT. There are other sad songs on my list, but those two make me cry harder than all of them combined.
And Wicked does suck. You're not evil to think so, BlueWizard.

Hey CATS, you get a clue and a life!
"Wood" was used both times for a specific reason. and I bet you don't even know what it is. If you knew anything about music, you would know what I'm talking about and why Schwartz used "wood" both times. I'm not going to be your teacher tonight. Figure it out. And as far as you breaking into hysterics, I feel sorry for you. You must not understand the song at all.

Finishing the Hat - Sunday in the Park with George *remembering the facial expression on Mandy Patinkin's face when he said, "Yes, she looks for me... Good." Ohh... =( *
Yes, she looks for me. Good.
Let her look for me to tell me why she left me.
As I always knew she would.
I had thought she understood.
They have never understood
And no reason that they should
But if anybody could...
...
=(

Posted: 8/24/04 at 12:11amNYBroadwayNY, I understand that Shwartz writes some of the worst "Nessa-confessa" lyrics I've ever heard, but that's about it. And stop defending WICKED, it's just sad.... (pun intended) Updated On: 8/24/04 at 12:11 AM

"You don't sell out an almost 1800 seat theater every night with obnoxious songs. But speaking of obnoxious, 'It sucka sucka etc...'"
It's no more obnoxious than Idina Menzel's screaming her performance. And I may be wrong, but weren't you the poster who griped about rudeness and negativity in the "Obnoxious Voices" thread? Because this comment doesn't seem to be exactly polite:

Defending WICKED?? I really don't need to defend it. Honey, just go to the Gershwin ANY night and see that 1800 people are eagerly awaiting to get it to see it. Or go by and see how many hundreds are there hoping for lottery tickets. Or check out the cancellation line any night and see the dozens there with fingers crossed waiting for tickets and see how much "defending" WICKED needs. Please.
The only thing that's sad, is how you and others put it down in a attempt to be "different" because you think that being different makes you special. Sad... very sad...

My favorite sad songs are:
Valjean's Death from LES MIS
Just Go from A NEW BRAIN
Hardest Part of Love from CHILDREN OF EDEN
Your Daddy's Son from RAGTIME
What Would I Do from FALSETTOS/FALSETTOLAND
And because I have no will power: I've seen Wicked and own the OBC and agree that DEFYING GRAVITY is not obnoxious, just a minor annoyance. I DO disagree with the opinion that it's not a sad song. It makes me sad, but that's because I happen to LIKE gravity and am not in the habit of taking its benefits for granted. I refuse to defy gravity and rarely even question it; GRAVITY GETS A BAD RAP IN THE THEATRE COMMUNITY AND IT IS SADDENING.
Listening to FOR GOOD does make me sad, but not for anything it contains so much as what it reminds me of. The message and stlye of the song are just fine, but if I want to hear that message I can get a better version of it by listening to the far superior SIDE SHOW, something Schwartz clearly did plenty of while writing FOR GOOD. That makes me sad.
y'know, that was too much effort to write. what i meant to say is WICKED SUCKS! (i'm half-kidding)

Posted: 8/24/04 at 12:26amI know all that. I'm just taking my turn. So many want to put it down, I'll continue to speak my mind here too. I'm not trying to change any minds. They're mostly too closed here to do that anyway.

Just because someone wins an award doesn't mean a thing. After all, "Miss Saigon" lost the Best Musical award to "The Will Rogers Follies."
"No, I wasn't the poster about being obnoxious."
That wasn't the question. I asked whether you had posted in the "Obnoxious Voices" thread decrying other posters' negativity.

~Not That Girl from Wicked
~Without You from Rent
... and it's late so I can't think of anymore!
