I laughed when Lucy was killed, but I saw a regional production, and her voice was so load and obnoxious I was glad Idina left the stage ... it was made even more hilarious by the fact, that once the bed started to carry her lifeless body off the stage, it got stuck and Idina jumped up and started telling jokes...
I'd go back to see Idina Michelle in anything...
Down Home - Purlie
I'll Cover You - Rent
For Good - Wicked
Easy to be Hard - Hair
If he Really Knew Me - They're Playing Our Song
Not While I'm Around _ Sweeney Todd
Can we please take a second here! I enjoy a good Wicked debate as much as the next guy, but the problem is that there haven't been any actual debates about it. There have been plenty of arguments and personal attacks but nothing I would call a debate.
Look, if you're a Wicked fan, be proud of it! But understand that there will always be people with a completely different opinion and you're not likely to change it anymore than they are likely to change your mind. What I've seen happen over and over again is that Wicked will come up in a thread and inevitably someone will make an anti-Wicked comment or joke, and the closest, newest Wicked fanatic will get their feelings hurt and respond emotionally with personal attacks. Here's something to think about-- maybe a big reason why so many of us have real animosity toward Wicked is because of the way so many of its fans choose to defend it. There was a time when I really liked the show, but now I can't stand to listen to it because I associate it with the numerous Wicked freaks here and offline who make ridiculous claims about its greatness and legacy, then insult me when I give reasons why it might NOT be the best musical of our time!
Of course there's no accounting for taste. I have a few favorite shows that aren't too well-liked. And I'll never understand what CATSNYRevival sees in CATS or DRACULA for example, but it never causes a problem because we both understand that there ARE people who hate shows we each may enjoy, and don't insist on proving them wrong at all costs. Of course if you disagree with what someone has said, you can always say so but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE resist the temptation to have a temper tantrum and maybe try...oh I don't know...EXPLAINING why you disagree or at least sharing what it is you enjoy about it. To me that's what sets Wicked apart. It's probably the most heavily defended show here, but with a few exceptions I almost never hear anything to back up WHY the show is so genius or WHY whatever poster is an idiot or hack or a tasteless moron. Just because someone can give real evidence and data to argue that no, Idina did NOT in fact teach Jennifer Holliday how to belt, doesn't mean you need to resort to feces-throwing. Yes there are a lot of smart-asses here (myself included) who will make jokes about something you may have said, but they will not attack you personally nor will they judge you for keeping a different opinion UNLESS you throw the first stone. then you'll probably get pounced on by several posters and that's never fun.
I'm sorry to the Wicked fans here who do follow these basic rules of communicating like a human being. Many of you are wonderful and have great things to say about Wicked and everything else and I love having you here to offer differing viewpoints that I can consider. It's just the endless supply of irrational, hurtful, and ignorant defenders of the show who prompt such harsh reactions from the anti-Wicked among us.

I'd like to point out that I don't hate WICKED. I dislike it, I'd never pay to see it, but I don't hate it. I just hate the "Wiz-O-Maniacs"...

I understand where you are coming from Broadway Matt, so if I ever acted like one of those extreme Wicked fanatics on this board, I apologize in advance. I know there are extreme Wicked fans who go overboard with the defending of Wicked and resort to immature personal attacks with any criticism of it.
However, please do understand that the other extreme exists in this board too. There are some people who seem to can't post without putting Wicked or it's fans down and get just as nasty as the extreme Wicked fans. I mean what kind of reaction do you expect when someone posts a topic about Favorite Sad Songs ordering posters to not list Defying Gravity because it is "obnoctious".
Okay, but we must admit, Defying Gravity is "obnoctious".

lol. I think we have to agree to disagree there. I do agree that there are Wicked fans who are "obnoctious".
That works for me.
And to the folks who think that selling loads of tickets and winning a lot of awards make a show good - One word:
Titanic.
hahah EXACTLY but that actually i thought the music was decent it was the rest the made me cringe

my favorites would have to be
A Little fall of rain - from Les Miz
For Good - Wicked
Wow. NYBroadwayNY has earned quite a few enemies here tonight. I always enjoy seeing newbies alienate themselves from the rest of the group within a month of starting to post.
I am not a Wicked fanatic, but Defying Gravity is a killer song to close the first act. And miss Menzel has made it hers so a lot of people feel that nobody else (or very few) can sing it as well. I am sure there are those that can. But it's (In my opinion) just a killer song period. The show is entertaining and ok. It's an event. You go in and wait to hear certain songs. (In my opinion) But yeah, it does seem to come up in just about every thread and as much as I like the music, It get's tiring. I also agree that the fans of the show should not be treated badly if they are new here. Jeez, I was terrified to continue posting after my first post and reading some of the threads. And some threads go off on spellings and you have to wade through those to get pick out posts that are actually about the subject. The post that has annoyed me the most is the one that pounced on the person who called the first act finale The song at the end of the first act!! Ok, the poster didn't use the right term, but hey, it is the song at the end of the first act!!! Don't chastise these people, help them out! Help them to learn the terms, abbreviations, etc.!! I know I am still learning! So now I've done it....I got off the posted subject! My ramble for the day...... :)
WICKED has some good songs. WICKED also has some of the most pointless songs in recent memory. It's a mixed bag. The show will be remembered as being a big lavish production. It will not be remembered for it's score.
To some it will, to some it won't! That's the great thing about theatre....we all take something different away from it!
Oh...I need to add Lot's Wife to my list. It's still pretty fresh but it rips my heart out everytime I hear it.
CatsNy...it sounds like you laugh a lot huh?
That being said, here's my list
No One Mours the Wicked- Wicked...it's totally sad how Glinda just lost her friend and has to like pretend she like didn't know her.
What is This Feeling- Wicked...omg I just want to cry because Glinda is so mean to Elphaba.
Something Bad- Wicked...OMG those poor animals!
I'm Not That Girl- Wicked...omg I want to cry because elphie is in luv with Glinda's boyfriend.
Defying Gravity- Wicked...omg that's not allowed huh?
I'm Not That Girl (reprise)- omg Fieyro dumped glinda for elphie
No Good Deed- Wicked...omg Elphie is like totaly risking everything for fiyero
For Good- Wicked...omg she's gonna melt
Sentimental Man (reprise)- Wicked...omg it's so sad that he didn't know.
just kidding
Seriously though, here's my list:
Still Hurting- L5Y
For Good- Wicked
Lion Tamer- Magic Show
On The Willows- Godspell
By My Side- Godspell
I Know the Truth- Aida
Chavala- Fiddler
I'll Cover You (reprise)- Rent
One last thing...if everyone loved the same show Broadway would be bland and boring, so as someone who LOVES wicked I'm not gonna lie...a lot of people who are "Wiz-o-maniacs" (i like that term cats) are annoying.
Just because Kristin Chenoweth signed your playbill, you're not best friends. There's life beyond Wicked, some of you need to explore.
PS- Cats, you said you'd never pay to see Wicked. Do I take that to mean that you have not seen it and still feel so strongly against it?
On the Willows and By My Side....how could I have forgotten those! Used to listen to them back to back with the lights out late at night!
Thank you, ElphieLives, for posting a response with grammar, spelling and comments that don't make my eyes bleed.
But if we're really going to nitpick at Wicked's lyrics, I don't think For Good is the worst. Really, "Nessa-Confessa"??? "I really feel...Wicked."??? I truly cringe every time I hear those words.
I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT YOU PEOPLE JUST HAD THIS ARGUMENT AGAIN!
i have been a member here for several months and this discussion has not stopped since and it is driving me CRAZY!
1. there was no need to call the song "obnoctious"- that was not the point of the thread, but it was the reason the argument started up AGAIN
2. some people like idina menzel's voice, some don't. lets just say that she is talented in some way or another- and agree to disagree about the degree of her talent, shall we?
3. "wicked" is not brilliant theater- hopefully we all realize that (if we do not- then that is a problem- THE problem, in fact) BUT it does bring a lot of people to broadway, and i like it when a lot of people go see one show because that means that they may (hopefully) go see ANOTHER and that is how broadway stays alive.
4. "wicked" also brings a lot of younger people to the theater- that's good, new generations are NECCESSARY- BUT the show also brings a lot of younger (and yes, sometimes older, doesn't matter) people to this message board and they do not stop talking about the show, it's stars, etc., etc., and it gets OLD. in fact, it GOT old months ago.
5. other posters should be less offensive when it comes to that subject (again, no need to call the song "obnoctious" or whatever it was he said) and it is not always justified. if we all try to be less forcefull (i know that sounds a bit hypocritical coming from me right now) things will be much easier, and we won't have to have this discussion for ANOTHER 11 months.
*steps off the soap box*
*says goodnight*

oh and I forgot something else that Iwanted to say...
if you feel the need to discuss Wicked 24/7 have some respect for people that don't like it and go to a WICKED MESSAGE BOARD. If you don't know where to find one, PM me.
Aww, NYSOM, what's the fun in that?
Seriously though, confrontational posts and personal flames are uncool and unproductive.
So is bad spelling. *eye twitch*
