EW has a first look at a scene from BIG FISH. I must say that I've been on the fence about this but the song is pretty good. I do love me some Lippa because of WILD PARTY so I'm hopeful about this.
Time Stops
The song is good. I just don't think that the musical will be able to live up to the movie.
Personally, I didn't think the movie was much to live up to and saw this as a great opportunity to improve on it. This musical didn't, however. I found it incredibly unfocused and confusing. Two or three good songs and a great cast, but make sure you know the story well before seeing this show or you will spend most of your time in the theatre trying to connect the dots.

I liked Norbert's part until Kate started singing. Her part was dull.

Yup.
The movie wasn't all that great, but regarding this particular scene, at least they had the opportunity to visually "stop time". In the movie, this one was of the visual effects that was somewhat effective. Not so much on stage.
One of my favorite moments in the show. So happy this video was made available.
I thought the musical was great, actually, and it's nice to see it in video form so everyone else can see it. Personally - this wasn't one of my favorite moments in the show,
Regardless, this season's new musical crop looks very promising. Thank god for that, this season was for the most part pathetic.
What else has been announced for the upcoming season that looks more promising? So far, I think Matilda, Kinky Boots and Hands on a Hardbody were much less pathetic than Big Fish.
For the upcoming season there is DINER, PRINCE OF BROADWAY, TUCK EVERLASTING and REBECCA. Oh wait...

DOH!I'm anticipating the plays more. Red Rover, Red Rover! Let The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time come over!

Count me in the (apparently small) camp of those who loved Big Fish in Chicago! I saw the first preview and then went again to the last performance to see what they had changed. They made a lot of improvements in that time. Yes there are still things to fix, but that's the point of a pre-Broadway tryout! They'll probably alter things during the rehearsal process this summer, and then a little bit more during previews in New York. There were actually a couple of things that I kept thinking "That's not going to make it all the way to the Broadway opening," but overall I really think it has potential. I know that some people don't think the music is catchy, but I had multiple songs from the show running through my head for a week and I kept wishing I could buy the recording right away! And really the biggest issue that people seem to have is that they don't like the story of Big Fish. Not specifically the musical or movie or book, but the basic story of a man who told tall tales, and his son who felt overshadowed by the stories until he himself became a father and realized that his dad was trying to inspire him. It all comes down to personal preference, but I really enjoyed it and hope that it ends up dong well!
I too, saw it several times in Chicago. The first time I saw Big Fish was in it's first week and it was plagued by sound problems. The first act was also very dull. Bobby Steggert's character was very underdeveloped and came off as whiny. Kate Baldwin's character is still very underused. I hope they fix that.
I saw it a total of 4 times (each Thursday that it ran.) and liked it more each time. By the end, I had surrendered to it's charms.
Yes, it still has work to do. At my final Thursday show, Kate Baldwin mentioned at the stage door that they were re-doing the opening number which had already been redone from the first time I had seen the show....so they're are aware that more work is required.
Having said all that, I'm hopeful that the show really does well when it gets to Broadway. I ended up really liking this show.
I think the song sounds derivative of many other things. Not a great song. Kind of a dull song.
At the end of the video--have they re-done the title treatment for the show? It definitely looks like a step down. Oof.
Hm, I have an mp3 of Time Stops (can't remember how I acquired it) and I LOVE it but was not too impressed by this video...but curious to see and hear more about this show!
Just saw this casting call..im guessing Katie Thompson has left?

Does anyone know if anyone else is leaving the production for Broadway?
A shame if Katie Thompson has left the cast – I really enjoyed her in the show.

Allegiance, Diner, If/Then, First Date, Tuck Everlasting, The Bridges of Madison County...? New musicals, and all of them at least look interesting, where this year was so bad that A Christmas Story got nominated. (not that I don't adore Pasek & Paul, but let's be real)
