Four more theatres turn dark until they get new tenants. I believe the only theater not yet booked is the Nederlander where G&D is?
What's going into all of the other theaters? I know RACE is taking the Barrymore but I didn't hear anything about the Lyceum or Belasco.
Anyway, it's sad to see three pretty excellent shows (JOE TURNER, EXIT, and REASONS, of course) and one pretty lifeless revival of an excellent show go, but hopefully even better shows arriving next year will take their places.
I'm particularly sad to see REASONS go, which should have won the Tony for Best Play.
Weren't both Exit and Joe Turner limited runs anyway?
Yes.
Also, EVERYDAY RAPTURE off-Bway is closing, too.
The Nederlander is booked.
Wait, did I miss something? I didn't know that Guys and Dolls was closing. Not that it upsets me too much, but when was that news released?
It was announced on Tuesday.

the Nederlander is booked? already? does that mean shuttering "guys and dolls" was planned long before tony night? i still thought that show would run through the summer- its grosses were not all that bad.
best wishes to everyone, but especially mary testa who deserves way more to do with her career!
No, the Nederlander is not booked yet. But I'm still confused...what's taking the Belasco and the Lyceum? I didn't think anything was announced yet...
Again, the Nederlander is booked.
I'm excited to see Exit the King tonight.

LoL, if it's booked can you at least tell us what show has it?
Perhaps Addams Family will take the Nederlander and leave Mermaid to die a slower death?
To "flounder," if you will...
Okay, y'all are free to shoot me now!
The Neil Simon rep is probably going into the Nederlander. And I've heard rumors that the long awaited Belasco renovation is going to finally happen.
Might be the wrong place to ask this, but does anyone know if any of these 4 productions was filmed for posterity, beyond of course LCA? Exit the King has Rush and Sarandon in it, which could spell viewers if it were to air on public television at some point. If this production was not filmed then honestly, why film anything?
Feb. 28 - Looped, Feb. 28 - Next to Normal, March 4 - Hair, March 11 - A Little Night Music, March 24 - Time Stands Still, April 6 - La Cage Aux Folles, April 10 - Anyone Can Whistle (City Center), April 10 - Looped, May 9 - Enron, May 15 - A Little Night Music, May 15 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Behanding In Spokane, May 30 - A Little Night Music, June 20 - A Little Night Music, June 23 - Red, June 23 - Sondheim on Sondheim, July 13 - A Little Night Music, July 18 - The Grand Manner (Lincoln Center)
Rudy,
Of the 4, I believe REASONS TO BE PRETTY was the only one to be filmed for Lincoln Center.
It is ridiculous that productions like EXIT THE KING aren't filmed for everyone to see. That's why people take it upon themselves to do it, since the shows won't. And thank God for that.

How asinine...I'm sorry, but people 'taking it upon themselves' to film productions is 1) illegal, 2) horribly distracting to the actors and other audience members and perhaps above and beyond all completely defeats the point of doing theatre in the first place. If you want to see a show...go see the show. If you live out of town and can't see it...hopefully it gets filmed for Lincoln Center, if not, tough.
I'm not against the idea of filming theatre, mind you, I was a big fan of Spike Lee filming PASSING STRANGE; because he did it PROFESSIONALLY (which hopefully keeps the artistic integrity of the show intact) and the actors and crew were fairly COMPENSATED for the work that thousands would see without buying a ticket. Some jackass with an iPhone isn't going to provide any kind of decent version of a show like EXIT THE KING or REASONS TO BE PRETTY and in fact, in all probability will distract the actors and his fellow audience members from the experience that they paid to have.
I like the idea of more shows being filmed for PBS or the like, but suggesting that its okay for people to do it on their own? Just shockingly tacky. Sorry.
Not to disrespect harper4 by posting this right after him... but if anyone knows where I could find some tickets for a performance of EXIT THE KING, playing at the My Computer theatre, that'd be great. I like PM's... just sayin'.
