Went to Match today and found Frank Langella's performance brilliant as usual.
The show is very good (Not exactly as good as Fortune's Fool but very entertaining)

Langella is great in Match. But does this show really belong on Broadway. Between the subject matter and small scale (cast, setting), it seems better suited for off Broadway.
The set is beautiful, but not really necessary.
And they need to trim some (or all) of the jokes that only the New York arts community would get, like the comments about Inwood, plies, etc. It's getting lots of laughs in previews because the audience is papered with industry people.
Some genuine emotional moments, Jane Adams also good, but I don't know how the show will go over with "the masses"...

I actually think you are right. It would be more suited at the new DR2 theater.
I love that theater. But not until Ears is finished.

..."not until Ears is finished"?
Well, it would be pretty difficult for ANY show to play the DR2 Theatre before Ears is finished, wouldn't it?
Why are you formulating plans for Match? They don't move shows from Broadway to Off Broadway!!

"I've seen him naked, no big whop."
I think the correct spelling is "wop." But then that's offensive. And I don't think the lord has created a "no big wop."

You never heard of Frank Langella. He was nominated for a Drama Desk two years ago for Fortune's Fool with Alan Bates and they both won. He was in Dracula and many other things.
Fortune's Fool was perhaps my favorite play then.

Okay, all of us who saw the "Lolita" remake with Jeremy Irons saw Frank Langella naked. All I can say is this - anyone ever hear of "shrinkage"? You try running through a hallway having a hysterical fit and maintaining any sort of ... normalcy! LOL!
I've seen Frank in everything he's done in the NY region since 1977 and IMHO, he is a truly gifted, entertaining son of a bitch. I can overlook a little ... shrinkage.

Does anyone remember him in "Diary of a Mad Housewife?"
It's an old movie with Carrie Snodgress and Richard Benjamin. Frank Langella was so nasty, evil, and sexy in this film.

Corine- I was there Sunday as well-- did the old lady's hearing aid loud pitch noise annoy you during ACT I as much as it did me and all the other people I heard complaining to ushers during intermission? Thank God they had the old bat turn it down for Act II- I cant imagine being on stage trying to concentrate and having to hear that high pitched tone..yikes.
I went into this show not knowing anything about it and left pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting the turns it took. I thought the set was amazing and definitely "looked" like a flat you would find in Inwood. Frank was hysterical, Ray Liotta was Ray Liotta and Anne was good but at times I had a hard time hearing her-- PROJECT LADY! The whole 5 minute discussion about a certain sexual act (act II) started to make me really uncomfortable- especially when I thought they might DO IT... if you've seen the show (Corine) you will know what I'm talking about.
Its a good show but I don't think it will run long...

Broadwaylilhead - I was at the Sunday show and the lady's hearing aid was driving me nuts too. Frank was a riot. It would be so easy to go overboard with that character, but Frank's performance was pitch perfect. The 5 minute discussion about you-know-what made me uncomfortable too and I braced myself for an unprecedented sight in my theatre-going experience
. What do you think are Frank's chances of nabbing a Tony nomination?

I was in the front Mezz and i did not hear the womans hearing aid. God- I hope that does not mean i will need one soon.
I did hear a few cells go off though and my friend Adrienne and I really hate cell phones.
I actually gave up my cell for that reason.

I think Langella is a great actor and to me, still has a beautiful face. When he was younger, he was absolutely gorgeous. I have seen him in theater and movies both. He was even Scrooge in a Christmas Carol a few years back. I don't doubt that he and Ray Liotta are great in the show. I have tickets for May 23rd. Did you know his father owned or owns Bayonne Barrel in New Jersey?

Frank was an absolute god in "Diary of a Mad Housewife". I remember reading an article in Cosmopolitan years ago about how he had to rush into elevators because women would chase him, tearing the buttons off his coat! I particularly enjoyed his 1987 Broadway performance in "Sherlock's Last Case" - does anyone here remember that one? He made a terrific Holmes, with an interesting plot twist.....SPOILER.......
(Holmes was the villian!).
