After8 -- assumptions are not becoming. I did read some of ...temps perdu in a French lit university course, we had to read and write about the chez Swann section. But I admit, I've never read him in English (at the risk of sounding pretentious -- then again, it's you I'm addressing) and never have ventured past that. I will give you kudos for reading, now I'm going to assume, all of the volumes of the novel, however. It's something I always intend to, but you know, I'm too busy with Twilight. Your view on what you think I have enjoyed reading novel wise, be it for pleasure or in the past for school, is pretty bizarre but you have never been particularly perceptive when it comes to things like that.
Where did I ever even imply that Fun Home somehow has made people appreciate Proust in the first place, let alone that he caused people to suddenly remember him. Bizarre. My only comment, and it was I admit a random observation, was I found it ironic that while insulting fun home you quoted, unrecognized by myself, Proust since that is a part of the original graphic novel. I'm certainly glad, however, that Bechdel didn't attend some finishing school (and she does have an extremely strong literary education, if education is so important to you.)

"assumptions are not becoming"
Exactly. Then why did you assume I would find Proust unpleasant? Strange. And yes, I have read all of the volumes. In French.
But all of that is irrelevant, as are all the tiresome, dreary swipes by you and others about my presumed age, appearance, taste, etc.
No one cares about any of that, and all it amounts to is infantile threadjacking.
Time for you and you cohorts to grow up.
The subject of this thread is Fun Home. If you have nothing to say on the subject, then say nothing.
I just didn't think you cared much for characters or situations in your fiction that could be seen as unpleasant. It was an assumption, but one I think you've shown a lot of evidence to back up on here. The Swann section alone has a particularly rude little boy. I had no idea you spoke/read French, let alone devoted hourse of pleasure reading 5000+ page multi volume French novels! Impressive. Since, unlike most modern theatre which is not to your taste, obviously that is, I would love to read your thoughts such things that you actually enjoy. It would be nice to hear you actually describe something you like with the same enjoyment you seem (again, I assume) to get from putting down things.
I have NEVER commented on your age, or appearance. Taste, I certainly have but so have you, as you just showed (and you've made a point of my being too young to know better, as well as others, which I assume is largely why people get on your case for perhaps being the opposite.)
Did I mention Bechdel brings up Proust in Fun Home? :P

Someone just told me they fired Beth Malone, can anyone confirm this???
What???? How could that be? She doesn't even have an understudy, as far as I know.

They've begun casting understudies for all the roles- my guess being that as they are extending they are also encountering cast conflicts. I can't imagine anyone from the cast being "fired" at this point but there could be a scenario in which conflicts demand replacing an actor for some remainder of the extension.
Who would you have heard that from anyway? Doubtful. Also, it's only extended another month, I cannot imagine getting recast or fired now.
I miss this music like crazy

sorry in my shock i put the wrong person, i ment to write Alexandra Socha has apparently been let go, regardless i'm not sure this is true, thus why I'm trying to get secondary confirmation

Socha was out of the show on Thursday, though I assumed it was because of illness. Her understudy (who was quite wonderful) was Emily Skaggs.
It is my understanding that they are going to extend as long as they possibly can at the Newman.

isn't the space being used for Under The Radar in January?
Schedules and locations can certainly change.
I've heard from several people involved with the show that the latest they can extend at the Public is through January 5th.
Going to see it on December 5. I hope it will be better than the live SOM broadcast that I'll be missing.

I'm sorry if this has already been posted somewhere (I checked first, but might have missed it) but Fun Home is officially getting a cast recording! You can pre-order it here: http://www.psclassics.com/cd_funhome.html
Does anyone know where the coupon codes can be found? I was looking to order Fun Home and Yank and was wondering where codes can be found for PSClassiics and /or other cd coupon codes can be found.
Thanks for any info.
Happy Thanksgiving

That is BRILLIANT, thanks Flower!
Sorry to revive an old thread, but Kad linked to this earlier tonight, and I read through it. And what it reminded me of is how rich a work Fun Home really is. It's about a grown person trying to make sense of her family and the choices her family members made as she grew up. It's about the coming-of-age of a lesbian woman as a kid, a tween, a college student, and as an adult. It's about a closeted gay man flailing about as he tries to connect with his gay daughter, even as he wallows in jealousy over the opportunity she has had to be herself, an opportunity he never had. It's about all of these stories put together as one miraculous whole, put to brilliant music - certainly one of the greatest musicals of the 21st century.

The original Broadway production was so special, both at The Public and Circle in the Square. The cast really embodied the roles they were playing and Judy Kuhn slayed me each time I heard her sing Days and Days.

And I still vividly remember as Al was trying to make sense of this memory playing before her, like an outsider looking in, her father suddenly spoke directly at her asking “Are you ready to go for that drive?”
that scene broke me to pieces. I was sobbing as they sing “Telephone Wire” - one of the greatest Broadway songs ever written. I still sob every time I listen to the OBC. Everything in this musical was pure perfection.
The staging at Circle In the Square was stunning.

One of my most favorite stagings of a Broadway musical ever. What I would give to see it for the first time again.

I hope we get many more great musicals out of Jeanine Tesori, but for my money, I think Fun Home is going to go down as her magnum opus.

I discovered Caroline or Change during the last revival and absolutely adore that show as well. I just can’t choose a favorite. Probably Fun Home, but Caroline is also brilliant. We need more from Tesori.
And it may not be perfect, but Shrek is also a fun score!
