Definitely "Down Once More/Finale" from POTO. I love the original cast recording, but I also LOVE the film soundtrack. Emmy Rossum sounds so funky when she sings "tears of HATE!". Chills every time...

MOLLYLLOM: Yes there is a musical called MARTIN GUERRE. It is made by Boublil & Shönberg who also have penned LES MISERABLES and MISS SAIGON. MG is my favorite of these three shows. MG didn't make it to B'way, it toured the U.S. with Hugh Panaro in the title role, but never ended up on B'way.
One more addition to harmonies:
Love Is A Question Mark - TABOO
There was another MARTIN GUERRE musical, written by Americans, that played regionally with Patrick Cassidy and Judy Kuhn but I've forgotten who wrote it.
Most of of my favourite moments have already been posted (Floyd Collins, Martin Guerre, most of Witches of Eastwick etc), but I have to mention the stunning harmonies in 'Perspective' and 'Trying not to notice' from The Woman in White.
I agree with just about everything that was said!
I know one thing that hasn't been said that I LOVE--but makes me sound 10 is "No one mourns the wicked" from Wicked!
unnaturally ..."GREEN!!!" is beautiful and then of course all the "WICKED!"s
when you're in the theatre and the ensemble hits those..wow
Damn Yankess is not one of my favorite shows, but I love the harmonies in you gotta have heart
Adler and Ross kicked butt on the harmonies. Yes, I love Heart - but Two Lost Souls is my fave. So jazzy, cool, and tight!

I absolutely agree with "Riddle Song" from Floyd Collins and "The I Love You Song" from ...Spelling Bee. Beautiful. Also, Finn's Elegies has some amazing harmonies/round-like sequences, especially for the men (Monica and Mark, Joe Papp, Mister Choi and Madame G). Complex but fun, and I could listen to them for hours.

i've stated this as my favorite musical theatre song EVER and i'm sticking to it. the harmonies in on my way from violet are exquisite. i just had to throw that out there.

Thought of another... In Lippa's Wild Party, the tiny song "By Now the Room Was Moving" has these quick but completely amazing harmonies as the cast names the four main characters. The song is only like a minute, but I listen to it over and over.
A Boy Like That from West Side Story
I love all those (sometimes unresolved) seventh chords in LaChuisa's Wild Party. His ensemble writing is excellent.
Sweeney Todd is so spectacular harmonically- particularly the madhouse scene, and the non-functional* harmony in the Sweeney Ballad. It sets up the mysterious atmosphere.
I love Cole Porter's harmonizations as well. They always match the lyrics so perfectly.
*By non-functional, I mean that the chords don't resolve in the conventional ways, not that it doesn't work for the listener.
