Shut up you annoying, hateful witch.  Oh, and it's "AN".

A0326T, I am SO happy for you that you got to see all those amazing shows!  Comet, Bandstand AND Groundhog Day!!!?!  What a trip!  laughyesheart

Hello .... I don't judge a show if it's flop or not. My summer trip NYC may not be a dazzling display of top drawer shows like DEH, Bette Midler, CFA, Hamilton but I did find my line up to be good.  Provided I have limited budget it provided me to enjoy Broadway.  Comet, GHD, Dolly with Murphy,  Saigon,  Beautiful,  Bronx and Bandstand is anything but pure heaven on Broadway.  And they were all decent seats at discounted prices and from what I saved I was able to dine at Gallagher. La Maseria, Palm, Churrasca Platiforma and Island Burger. All around Times Square. I stayed at Times Square Manhattan on 51st and Broadway.

I may be in the minority, but I don't consider shows like this a "flop". Yes, it failed on a financial level, but it was generally well-received by critics and those who saw it, which makes it an artistic success in my book.

The NY TIMES said it would lose most of its $17.5 million investment. To me that is a yuuuge flop...

i think the label"flop" is not very useful without a qualification in the case of an artistic and financial split. If you believe (as I do) that ghd was good art, you could call it an artistic success and financial flop

I think it was an artistic success and like I said in another thread, it's not a flop if you love it.  Screw the industry terms just for a minute.

I understand your concern about what if your Friday flight is delayed. Maybe just wait and see what's available at the TKTS booth or at the GHD box office after you land, assuming you land in time to make a show.

I am flying into New York City on Wednesday, November 8. My flight lands at 1 PM and I have tickets to see one of Ben's last shows in Dear Evan Hansen at 8 PM that night. Unless I get horribly delayed I should have no problem making the show. But if you hear on the news of a guy from Oklahoma rushing the cockpit on that day and trying to fly the plane to JFK, you'll know who it is. LOL

"

Maybe I can score a last minute seat to DEH, ha ha, obviously impossible.  Booked my flights after digging up very old, unexpired miles on Alaska.  Been keeping them alive since 2001.  Good excuse to use them. So excited to be able to see this before it closes!  Would love to try stage dooring for the first time, too, since I am feeling adventurous.

That's fantastic! Def stage door. It's always fun and it sounds like it won't be too crowded. They'll usually take selfies with you & also sign items from the souvenir booths in addition to your playbill. I usually bring my own sharpie, but they often have their own.

Check the DEH cancelation line/lottery thread for info, but DEH releases tickets about four days in advance to shows, typically the seats that were held for accessible patrons and their companions, so there is hope. I just bought DEH tickets yesterday for Saturday's show. Worth a shot.

As ticket prices become huge, shows have to be exceptional.  Competent/ ok/ not bad just can't survive any more.

GHD was ok- not exceptional.  It was doomed.

We have enough bizarro opinions in the world today, can't we be real here? This show was a flop. It lost money and it didn't get manic rave reviews. OK, you love it - if you love it, accept it for what it is, don't pretend it's something else.

We have enough snarky naysayers in the world today; can't we be considerate here? A lot of people loved the show and it got really great reviews. They just announced that it's closing, and obviously there's going to be an outpouring of love by all the people who were huge fans of the show. Okay if you didn't think it was great, that's fine, but do you really have to force everyone else to agree with your opinion?

They've cancelled both performances on August 30th. Anyone know why?

I"m sure they got it. They just didn't like it. And justifiably.

" I guess Brits just feel more comfortable rooting for an asshole."

Frankly, I don't see why audiences should care to root for one, or why they should be expected to, or worse, obliged to. Not to mention that both the show's book and score were extremely bad.

"Americans are a little softer, and I guess tourists from wherever were not interested."

I'm not a tourist from wherever, and I coudn't stand it.

Does anyone think there's a chance that it could be filmed before it closes?

They seem to have added a performance the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, but I'm curious if it's just that or something else too.  I realized there were no performances that day last night, which scuttled my tentative plan to come down from Boston on Tuesday the 29th and revisit Great Comet before it closes and then catch the GHD matinee on Wednesday, as I've yet to see it.  I suppose I could always just flip the two around, but I read in one of the Comet threads that Lucas Steele has been missing some matinees so I would like to play it safe if I can!

I doubt Lucas will be out any of the days during the final week. I'd definitely flip them as it's definitely worth seeing Groundhog Day and great comet. Also idk when they cancelled these performances, but they had the two show Sunday Labor Day weekend for at least a week. I noticed they had it a week ago, so idk. Was there two shows on that Wednesday or was it just the evening

Clearly you didn't get the show, especially if you don't understand the idea of having a character that can be relatable and still be an asshole. And I'm sure it got all those awards and Tony nominations because it was extremely bad.

I hadn't done stage door-ing in years, but GHD's is a blast - the cast is generally very kind and generous with their time.  (I say "generally" because I always want to give performers an out if they need to get home quickly, are sick, just aren't  feeling it, etc). It may be a little busier if you're going closing weekend, but not DEH-esque levels.

Andy, that tells us more about the acumen of those who give out awards than it does about the show's worth.

Not so. I loved La Cage Aux Folles, and that was only 34  years ago.

Everything is generic and bland these days.  None of these shows will be remembered as classics. With the exception of maybe DEH they will all be forgotten very soon.

Except, perhaps, as bad memories. For as we know, those are not so easy to forget. I speak from experience!
