Well he kept it open for about the same amount of time an A- lister Josh Groban did his musical.

Usually, there's a full company meeting called before the evening performance. How much notice there is of the meeting depends on the show and the producers.
I'm so sad to hear this!!! Not surprised, but sad... I guess I can stop holding my breath now, we have a closing date...
This is the first show I've ever gone to see more than twice, first show that's had such a meaningful and inspirational impact in my life, first show I've ever sent "fan mail" to, first show I've ever pored over grosses for!
I hope Groundhog Day becomes a "cult classic" (does Broadway have those?), that even with a short and financially unsuccessful run it gains fame for decades to come.
I know the show is in measurable terms "a flop", but it's been loved and adored by many people and I hope Andy Karl & co take a lot of heart from that...

Yeah, but GROBAN was always only going to be there for a set run and the show fell apart after he left...
"See that poster on the wall? Rocky Marciano." - Andy Karl as Rocky in 'ROCKY'

In the month of June I quickly figured out that the losing lotto codes were the day's 4-number date (0619 for example) followed by the letters "eghod". So at around 11am the day before when the codes unlock, you could just go ahead and buy a ticket regardless of whether or not you entered or won or lost the lotto.
Unfortunately they've stopped using that system - I didn't enter again until this week and the loser code for today (6498eg) seems to be random, so there goes that unfortunately!
didn't the creative team invest in this as well? I think its mentioned in the bio that they formed a INC or something to raise money once Scott Rudin (brilliant move dropping out) dropped out. I guess they lost it all.
jees. matthew Warchus, from Ghost to Matilda to Ghd.
I can't see how this show will do anything but help Andy's career. My perception is that Andy will be known for consistently turning out crowd and critic pleasing leading performances. He is very dependable and consistent. The main issue is we know he is not a box office draw but I don't think anyone would have had an illusion otherwise. You really have to break outside Broadway theatre these days to be a 'name'.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Very well said - even if it wasn't a critical success, it definitely holds a special place in my heart!!!
(This being said, I obviously feel for the cast and crew, who are out of the job. But I guess that's the showbiz life).

I entered for a few days this week but cannot remember when. Will send you a pm if I remember and it was one of those days!
On phone with Ticketmaster right now for refund for cancelled performance in Nov. They have not been notified that the show is closing in Sept. They asked how I knew it was closing and I referred them to this site. They checked and read what I read; however, they are "putting through a refund request and once we hear its closing we will refund you." Can someone please suggest a show for me to purchase a ticket for? Already seeing Miss Saigon. Many thanks.
Of the newer shows that are still relatively easy to get tickets to, I'd recommend:
- [x] The Band's Visit (buzz it's the show to beat for next year's Tony Awards plus its cast features Tony Shalhoub; I bought my ticket now as reviews are bound to be strong after it opens Nov. 9) - [x] Waitress - Sunday matinee (Just listened to the cast recording today and I'm so GLAD I have a front row ticket to see it in November).

Porter and Sands will be back in Kinky Boots if you haven't seen it.
I was more saying ghost (massive flop) Matilda (massive hit) GHD (massive flop)
i don't think a producer will entrust him with a huge musical again after losing around 30 million dollars with ghost and ghd.

I saw GROUNDHOG DAY July 31. I was one of the highlights of my theater week in NYC. I am really saddened by the announcement of its closing. It is pure magic for me. Seeing Mr Karl was a delight as well as the whole company. That week I also so Great Comet with Oak and Bandstand with Osnes Cott. Truly a wonderful week. Also saw BronxTale and I thought it was just an ok show. Rounding off I saw how fantastic Donna Murphy throughout in Hello Dolly... a gem. And Miss Saigon so dark.

Do you think Andy Karl will be in the show closing weekend? I am looking at flying out from California to see this and would love to see him in it. Maybe I should see it twice like Bill Murray did!

Of course. why wouldn't he be there? He was contracted well past September and I'd be very surprised if he misses any shows before closing.
