Wish I could have ran in to see Russell go on. Wonder if Gad will be out tonight, too?
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It’s unknown as of now about tonight. Josh said in his video he’s hoping to be treated and go on tonight. I happen to have tix for tonight, and will be happy either way. Russell is HILARIOUS. One of my favorite actors I’ve ever seen in Titanique.

Andrew Rannels and Russell Daniels both posted saying Sam Hartley also made his Broadway debut today. Was he just the guest for the matinee?

Last night’s crowd seemed full of out-of-towners/bridge & tunnel, and they were a very enthusiastic, but well-behaved, bunch. I was in the balcony, I didn’t hear a single cell go off or anyone being loud or disruptive. The audience really elevated the vibe, and I had a great time.

Is Russell the "producer" every night when there isn't a celeb doing it? Russell did that the night I saw it. Meaning that Sam probably did it yesterday.
I've seen the show twice now. The first time I saw it from the last row in the balcony and liked but didn't love it. I felt like I could tell where the jokes were trying to be funny but didn't find myself laughing organically as much as I would've expected. I was also insanely tired that day though so I figured that might've also affected my perception and I picked up a rush ticket for the evening performance tonight (orchestra right partial view, though we didn't miss much). I think being closer helped a lot in being able to see the actors and their delivery better, and I was definitely able to pick up more details in what they were doing. I was laughing a lot more and just generally had more fun (also being able to read the hats more helped a lot). I think mezz would be the ideal spot for this show, as there's some minor stuff that happens on the floor of the stage, but orchestra should be mostly fine.
I think the show itself still feels inherently like an off-Broadway show, but it's elevated by Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad as well as Alex Timbers's direction. Parts of it feel like an extended sketch comedy routine (probably not surprising considering its UCB origins), and it can get tiresome if you don't buy into the characters and what they're doing. I like how the set has a few surprises and also how they involved the band into the show, but overall the best part of it really is the performances from Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad, and they really make a fantastic comedy duo.
Saw this last night too and loved it. Some Oh Hello! vibes to it. But laughed a lot, Rannells and Gad have great chemistry and my crowd was really into it. Was a lot of fun
I didn’t realise that there were seats too far away to read the hats. That would definitely damper the humour a little if you’re constantly trying to figure out which characters they are playing.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
We showed up 15 minutes before box office opening on Sunday (2 show day) and got the last two seats in row L on the right side of the orchestra. They're marked as partial view but I think there were only 2 quick jokes we missed and the actual content of the show is mostly front and center.
I think from the sides the hats are sometimes hard to read as well since you'll only see half the text until they turn to look in your direction, and sometimes the hat is perched with the brim raised up a bit, so I think center mezz would really be the best vantage point for the hats.
I had never sat up in the balcony there before, but it's very close to the stage, and probably even closer than at the Hudson or Shubert, which are both already pretty damn close. From row C on the aisle, I had no problem reading the hats, and I would absolutely sit up there again. I can see how sitting all the way at the top could present some issues because of the distance, but from the first few rows, you're golden.
A lot of emphasis being made on all the different character hats that they wear in the show!
The special “FIRST PERFORMANCE EVER” hats at first preview, the custom-made “ANCHOR” text for the Today Show crew, and now a wacky celebrity version of Heads Up (of sorts) with Fallon tonight.
Any chance we'll get a cast recording? If so I hope they include a generous amount of dialogue :).

I enjoyed this even more the second time tonight. I went with a friend who wasn't even looking forward to it but ended up having the best time. The “producer” tonight was Richard Kind which was a total riot. Curious who it will be tomorrow for opening.
