To be fair, the last revival will have closed 14 years prior to the arrival of this new production.
To me, at least, that's recent. But if this new production promises to offer something fresh, like the Donmar production apparently did, then I'll be eager to see what will come of it.
However, this just sounds like some producers who feel like reviving with a run of the mill production of the show so they're just throwing it into the hands of a usually reliable director to do what he wants.
But, whatever. I guess we'll see what comes of it.
The NY Times did not contradict itself. I believe they mentioned the Grandrge (sp) from London, production of GUYS and DOLLS. That was announced and canceled. Now, the certain production was canceled, but producing the show itself was not!
Foster I actually agree with you. As I was saying if it were the Donmar production then I would be very happy to see it despite it being on broadway 14 years ago. But, if it is just another run of the mill production then there is no reason why this should be open.
I mean, now that I think about it a theatre like The Nederlander is a bit to small to house what would have been the donmar production.
Does it ever occur to any of you that, we keep telling ourselves "Didn't we just see this"?. I think it's because many of us here are so educated on Theater and Musical Theater to be specific, that if any show is mentioned as a revival, we already say "wow, already?". We are so spoiled.
I think its because the work is still around us (regional, community etc), so we feel like the show never left. If a show was never to be produced for like say, 15 years, and there was no mention of it, or was never done in regional, community productions (where it can easily be noticed), then we will feel good about a revival. Or, we simply have just run out of ideas for shows!
Guys and Dolls after RENT.

.....
Why couldn't HAIR go in there?
Well, this excites me. Just please, someone else besides Cheyenne Jackson as Sky.
Speaking of Hair, I thought I heard it was interested in the Broadhurst? Or did I just make that up?

Whose idea was it that HAIR would take a Nederlander house?
This production would fit well in a small theater.
Even though Debra Messing was just a rumor a while ago, now that she is filming "The Starter Wife," which shoots in California, I assume, she probably won't be able to do the run either...

There's nothing wrong with Nathan & Adelaide being oldr than Sky Sarah. Nathan & Adelaide have been engaged for 14 years - so we can assume she's at least 35. Sarah could be as young as 25.
Oliver Platt & Sara Ramirez
hey does it have to be typical casting?)
Not too keen on this...I like him, but I think he would be more right for Nicely Nicely Johnson.
At his age you might as well call Faith Prince up and ask her to reprise her role...I think she is free now

to comment on the whole too early thing, look at ACL, Les Miz, um sunday in the park, fiddler...it's never too early.
DrTheatre-
The New York Times DID actually make a mistake with this one. They stated that the show would be closing in the article from earlier this week that I've linked at the bottom, but they corrected it today with the following:
"Correction: October 9, 2008
An article on Wednesday about concerns on Broadway over the possible effects of the financial crisis misstated the status of the revival of “Guys and Dolls.” It is to open March 1 at the Nederlander Theater; it has not been canceled. (More information about the show is in the “Arts, Briefly” column on page C2.)"

In random Celebrity Blog news, Perez Hilton tosses Cheyenne's name into it too.
With Rent no longer playing, Broadway will soon be welcoming a new revival at Times Square's Nederlander Theatre.
Frank Loesser's Guys and Dolls is set to return to the Great White Way, with Tony and Emmy nominee Oliver Platt in the lead role of Nathan Detroit.
The show will start performances on February 3rd, 2009 and will open officially on March 1st.
Other cast members have not yet been announced, but we're hearing hottie Cheyenne Jackson will be part of the revival.
Let's hope this one lives up to the former shows.

>Speaking of Hair, I thought I heard it was interested in the Broadhurst? Or did I just make that up?<
MARY STUART opens April 19 at the Broadhurst.
Yankee, I heard it from someone involved in the transfer.
That their first choice was the Nederlander.
Graham Rowat will also be in Guys & Dolls (yay!): http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/542769
I really want to know who is playing Nicely. It's my favorite broadway role! I think a bad nicely can be a downfall, Rockin' the Boat is such a show stopper. I love the new arrangement at the end of the London revival. Maybe they will borrow it?
I heard on Sirius radio that Tituss Burgess will be playing Nicely.
GOD DAMN IT!!
Yeah, it's Titus which is pretty annoying. I'm not a fan.
So far the only piece of casting that has somewhat excited me is Craig Bierko and that hasn't even been announced/confirmed. I hope the Lauren Ambrose rumors are true.
I think he could be a good choice. He can certainly sing the part, and that's really all that matters to me, since I don't go to NYC too often, all I have are cast recordings and tours (well, and the occasional bootleg ;O)
As I said in a previous thread, Titus Burgess, while incredibly talented, is bound to dilute "Sit Down, You're Rockin' The Boat" with the same inaudible mixture of riffed high notes he painstakingly institutes into any song he performs.
somethingwicked, I agree.
I had hoped this casting rumor wasn't true.
Does anyone have any idea when the box office might open?
