I can't wait to read it! Gavin is such an amazing and down to earth person! I really hope he gets a tony for this as well as the show itself!
What a classy, charming guy.

Aww, what a fantastic interview!!
He is wonderful <3
Wonderful interview. Gavin seems like an awesome guy.
I loved the interview, glad he finally came out and is now an advocate for equality. I wish I could see him in HAIR =(
He is Awesome.

I said this in the HAIR thread too, but I'm so proud of him! He has always been an idol of mine, and this only makes it moreso. Good for him, such a great guy!
I'm not usually one who chocks-up points for who joins the team, but I know I'm not the only one who's subtly excited that Gavin's finally publicly confirmed himself. :)
Gavin's crow's feet (in the picture with wicked_beast4) make him even better looking! I love those.

You know, it's funny, I... kinda didn't realize he wasn't publicly out until so recently.
And not because I just assumed... but it's just, I didn't so much get the impression he was trying to hide it or anything- I figured he just liked to keep his private life private. Maybe it's because of "For Nancy" from Goodtimenation? (which is an incredibly, incredibly beautiful and poignant song)
But anyway yeah, this is an awesome step, and I'm very happy for/proud of him for it!
Love him.
What a great interview. You can really hear his "voice" come through which is not always evident in a Q&A style article.
He really seems to be "the real deal". This fall I directed my HS Thoroughly Modern Millie. I asked Gavin to send my kids a little 'break a leg' message for opening night. A day or two later he did. It was short and sweet, but really delightful. SO made their night!
(If I've shared this story before, my apologies for redundancy.)
Congrats to a kind and talented guy, and good luck tonight!
I think Claude is one of those roles that some term as thankless. Berger, Sheila, Jeanie, and Chrissy tend to be thought of as "showier" roles in Hair, but if played well, Claude can break your heart in half in the show. If he plays this well, he could certainly be a heavy contender when awards season gets underway.
Well,
*spoiler*
his death made me cry like a baby, if that counts for anything.
*end spoiler*
I haven't seen this production, but I do know how it ends according to the script. The cast can wail and sing the he** out of "Let The Sun Shine In," but if we don't care about Claude, then we aren't as moved. Claude can't be a pansy. You have to really see the inner conflict and believe that he *wants* to be part of the tribe but the values established in him from an early age are pulling just has hard in the other direction.
How much do we love him?

Was there a moment you consciously chose to be out in your professional life?
Yeah, about a month and a half ago. I was like, I?m too old for this SH*T. I love my life, I love my friends, and I love my family, so I decided it didn?t really matter. I?ll give you that information, but that?s as much as I?d give anybody; the private stuff is private. I also want to be able to get married legally, and it doesn?t make any sense for me to parade around trying to get marriage equality while not being open about who I am. It doesn?t inspire young men and women struggling with their own sexuality to be confident in who they are if I?m not confident in who I am. And if I whisper about it, then I give other people the power to whisper about it, and there?s nothing wrong with it. I definitely want to get louder. I was totally inspired by people like Cheyenne, Christopher, and John.

Somebody just got added to the Steven Stanley Esteemed Young(ish, Comparatively) Homo Heroes List.
The rest of you can all go to hell!
Apparently this is hot news: http://perezhilton.com/2009-03-31-welcome-to-the-gayborhood-6#respond
Not bad, two PH shout outs...not too common for a theater personality. It's a shame the comments weren't a bit nicer.
Since I don't get naked in the show, it wouldn't have made sense to be naked on the cover of a magazine. That would be like someone singing a song that they don't actually sing in the show just for press. And I definitely don't think the masses need to see me naked anyway.
I still think he should have gotten naked for the magazine because he doesn't get naked in the show.

Oh I didn't know he was gay. Good for him! Gutted I missed out on seeing him in Mary Poppins.
This just makes me love him even more. I'm so proud of him! I'm hoping for a road trip to NYC this summer so I can see the show. =]
He's a terrific, talented guy. I'm glad he can be himself now.

I'm so happy for his success in "Hair" and his coming out in The Advocate. I have adored him since "Millie" and it's nice to see that he was inspired by others and he in turn will inspire those that come after. Bravo, Gavin Creel!
