Sad to see this news. Gene Saks was a complete gentleman when he directed the trio of Neil Simon's Brighton Beach plays-- for which my boss, David Mitchell, did the beautiful sets. Gene represented a classic form of Boulevard comedy directing that could still pack a lot of heart. Every year it seems another era ends.
