I've seen several community/school productions of each show, and I would pick JCS hands down. I hate Godspell's book, despite how much I like the score. When I actually see the show live, I find it extremely annoying. Also, JCS just has more edge to me.
Admittedly, JCS was my favorite show up until high school, so it holds a special place in my heart.

the upcoming revival of GODSPELL is NOT a transfer of the paper mill playhouse production. Although it is the same director and design team, the planned transfer of that production last season (to the belasco, was the plan) fell through.
Now that they are doing the show at circle in the square, the director/designers have a completely new vision for the piece. Sure, its going to be modernized a bit, but I dont think they went to far in changing it up- they just took some artistic liberty in the creation of the world where the show will take place.
I can assure you, its really cool. Very interactive, inclusive, and strong. I think the show will be MUCH better in the round than it could have been in a proscenium house.
That's a tough call, I love both.
Musically I would go with JCS. And this new staging sounds intriguing.
Emotionally, Godspell, no question. You can FEEL the disciples' loss of Jesus in Godspell. At the same time, it's also a lot more light-hearted.

who is "our production" of Godspell that the poster is raving about?....."asshole"? Interesting word but rather inappropriate. Come on now, let's grow up.
An extremely easy choice: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
