An better alternate word for the Pussy wagon line which was used in the Glee Grease episode is honey wagon which would have worked better than draggin' wagon.

What were you looking to buy? The recorded film or the cast album? It looks to me, at least as of now, that both are available for purchase...

"I love how Sandy calls it the Sin Wagon! I use that all the time.
BTW, anyone have any idea why most of the T Birds and Pink Ladys, at least in movie, have NYC accents?

Given that honey wagon brings to mind portable toilets, think I'll stick with draggin'
Petralicious I have a theory about the NY accents in the movie Grease.
I think after Fonzie on Happy Days, the kind of New York-Italian accent became associated with "Greasers" or being cool in the '50s. I think it's all because of one Arthur Fonzerelli.
I've always assumed the movie was set in LA, as the beach looks like Malibu, and they hold the drag race in the LA River.
But Rydell, in the original stage version, is supposed to be in Chicago.
Fonzi theory makes sense, he sounds NY too but HP takes place in Milwaukee, so maybe it is like you say, a universal take on Italian American!! As for Chicago, they dont sound like NY either.
Oh well! Thanks lovebwy, newintown!

Rydell in the stage version is based on William Howard Taft School which is based on Chicago but it's not specify where it's set, I suppose it to represent any American high school in that period.
I just finished rematching it for the first time since the night it premiered, I actually enjoyed it much more in one sitting minus the 50 minutes of commercials. When I watched it live I thought it dragged in the middle. I also decided to listen to the soundtrack in place of the live vocals, simply because the sound was higher quality (and I didn't need to hear the sound of the audience in the background) and it was enjoyable.
None of these live television musicals have been released on Blu-ray. I wish they would. Anyone else with me?

I do not mean to be a jerk, but do enough people buy blu ray for them to turn a profit, with dvd, digital, Amazon Prime, Netflix etc?

Not a stupid question at all. I'm in the home entertainment business and there are times when Blu-ray sales exceed the DVD sales...usually it's the other way around. That said, offering both DVD and Blu-ray will generally bring you more money. BILLY ELLIOT LIVE was released on DVD and Blu-ray in October and the Blu-ray sales are currently half of what the DVD has sold, but it all adds to the bottom line. The numbers seem to support a Blu-ray release of these musicals.
The other thing to note is, for the people that care, Blu-ray exceeds the quality of HD content streamed on services like NetFlix, etc. There are bandwidth issues with streaming that are not a factor with Blu-ray discs of the same content. I think that there will always be "collectors" in the world...which is why physical books are still published even though you're able to receive them electronically on devices such as the Kindle, etc.
A well done Blu-ray will trump a DVD or streaming service all the time both from a video and audio perspective...for now.
" Interesting, Thanks Michelle.
I havent seen any reaction to the show from Olivia, Travolta or Stockard other than a quick tweet from ONJ to Julianne before the show and a quick interview from JT that he wasnt sure he was going to watch, as there are 100s of productions of Grease going on all over the world. I am kind of surprised by that, I remember how Julie Andrews was very vocal in her approval of Carrie after Sound of Music
Also, I wonder how sweet Sandra Dee felt about that song. Honoured? Insulted? I guess we will never know now.
Well, Sandra Dee only died in 2005, I'm sure she must have mentioned it to someone. But I'm also sure she knows how she presented herself to the world and her depiction in the song probably wasn't shocking to her (it wasn't rude, it was saying she was pure and whatnot).

The new song written for frenchy was completely unnecessary. It did not fit in at all. It sounded too modern. This production would have been better if that song wasn't in it. And carly rae isn't that good of a singer. She didn't sound that good in that song. Her acting is better than her singing.

I loved it! I know some people said Aaron looked too old for the role but I thought he played a great part. I was surprised how much I liked the whole production. Not a big fan of Frenchys new song but I liked everything else. I thought the boyz II men take on teen angel was a neat take.

The movie (and the sequel) was filmed at Venice High School. (For those who don't know LA, Venice is the neighborhood one sees all the time on TV, with young women skating on the boardwalk. Much of BAYWATCH and PACIFIC BLUES were also filmed there.) The high school is maybe a mile and a half from the Pacific Ocean.
There are certainly parts of LA that look more traditionally working class, if they had wanted to stay truer to the original.
A lot of the film choices have always baffled me.

"Sin Wagon" was also a monster hit single for the Dixie Chicks, beginning in 1999.
Petralicious, in the late fifties, Honey Wagon was the term used for the trucks that went around pumping out Port a Potties.

I think you mean septic tanks, which were a lot more common than Port-a-Potties (not that the latter didn't exist). I can remember when most houses in Fort Lauderdale had an above-ground tank sitting in the backyard. (The water table was too high to keep a submerged tank from floating up through the lawn.) Sewers weren't common in the suburbs.
(For those who only know life with sewers, septic tanks come in different forms depending on the terrain. Usually each property has its own container buried in the back yard, it allows liquid waste to drain into what are called "leach fields", while holding solid waste in the tank. The tank must be periodically emptied manually by a professional with a tanker truck, the "honey wagon". Septic tanks aren't really good for the environment and have been banned in most parts of California.)
Most of the exterior scenes from the HS were shot at Venice High, but the Carnival scene was actually shot about 20 miles away at John Marshall HS in Los Feliz. You can see the Griffith Park Observatory in the background. Other SoCal HS were used for interior shots.
Thank you for all the great facts Gypsey and Gavenstone and Snafu. All very interesting!
I hope Sandra Dee took the songs as an honour. IN that Kevin Spacey movie about Bobby Darin, she suffered alot.
Oh My Word! Did you guys see the Player doing the Hand Jive during the Super Bowl after getting a Touchdown?
