Great Comet National Tour?

Do we think Great Comet will tour? Obviously, the spectacle is the space they've created at the Imperial, but what if they brought back the tent and toured it that way? I know this would be a huge financial risk for producers but if they got someone with some star power to hop on it could sell well. I don't think it would incredibly hard to tour with the tent, considering that there are still circus's that tour with a tent and have far more equipment. Just thought this would be a awesome idea. But if they do tour, I bet they'll go the Cabaret route and just rework the set.

I think that it would be smart to reduce the size of the show and tour it in the tent like how it was Off-Broadway.

But with that, comes much less seating....and likely a financial impossibility to re-coup.

I think they are likely to set up smaller shops all over (Chicago, San Fran  sit down productions). I don't think Great Comet will have a great demand in middle America. A tent production which runs a few months at different cities around the world is what I'd like from this show.

If there was ever a creative team that could make a tour of this show happen, it's Chavkin, Lien & co. They're all superbly talented and inventive, and I imagine there are multiple ways they'd consider touring. A tent sounds the most promising, but then again, costly. I can also imagine a world where they build a touring set that sit inside a proscenium, with risers and the basic runway set up that they have at the Imperial. The rest of the theater wouldn't be able to be transformed, but you'd still have the essence of the show presented.

I agree with what everyone has said in this thread so far. I would completely fly out to Chicago in an instant to see that company just because I love this show so much. Around the 49:40 mark, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxLTf2tO5ww)

touring is mentioned, so it seems to be possibility. I would say to keep your fingers crossed as well.

Yeah I'd imagine a scaled back design like they Have now with on stage seating, but the tent sounds cool. I mean Cirque does it.

Isn't cirque cheaper to produce, because their performers aren't unionized?

I could see them just doing three sit down productions in San Francisco, LA, and Chicago in a tent like they did downtown.

I much preferred the version I saw at the Kazino tent back in 2014. Very intimate, cheaper prices, and more food menu options!

i hope they go this route!

I really hope they do a national tour, because I'm in SF and really hope to see it. I'm curious as to who they would cast.

Depending how they do it, a tent could be fantastic publicity....it's a long shot, but it would be amazing. My guess is they will wait to see how it does post Tonys and Groban.

I would be beyond thrilled for a Chicago sit-down production... I'll take whatever form I can get, whether it's a tent or a revised set in a theater.

I'd love an L.A. sit-down in one of the beautiful old theatre sitting empty downtown, but a tent could be fun!

Natasha could set up their tent right where Chavalia has theirs in Chicago.

They could get a used one cheap from Cirque .  As far as the LA sit down in one of the old downtown theaters... they couldn't get a audience when they tried that with Carrie.

True, but a revised (and great) production of a Broadway flop is not nearly as marketable as the most Tony nominated musical of the season, especially with some big names. I still think Hamilton should have taken one of those theatres before they announced the tour!

Isn't that right on the lake? Doesn't seem like the best location during winter. If they go the tent route I'd rather it be somewhere with more foot traffic.
