I think lead actor is Platt's and the techs are Natasha Pierre's but the rest could go either way.

I thought Rachel was really really wonderful, but to be honest I just can't get over Amber Gray's rendition of Charming and all the nuances in her performance- including when she isn't the primary focus of the scene. She's who ill be rooting for come Tony tine
Also, does anyone think Josh poses any competition for Lead Actor? I think he should deservedly get a nomination but perhaps not win. And I am really hoping for a nomination (and hopefully win!) for Lucas Steele. His voice and mannerisms were on point.
I think TGC is the better musical and DEH has a better book and acting. TGC is a great musical and I find myself singing the songs to myself but I don't even remember any DEH songs. I remember the gist of the songs but it's nothing I'm going to seek out and listen again. IMO, DEH is a great play with music in it. I think you could remove the music and still have a great show.
My thoughts are that DEH will win book and acting for Platt and RBJ and TGC wins musical and possibly featured actor for Steele bc he's really good in a (afaik) sparse field this season.

Wholeheartedly agree. I'm just a big Rachel Bay Jones fan, but Amber Gray is undeniably sensational in Comet.

I agree and she is a true featured actress while RBJ is a lead. Yes, she has less time than Platt but he's onstage way more than usual actors. IMO, Connor's mom is featured and RBJ is lead but I'm sure she will get featured and take Amber's Tony.

This is precisely how I felt. I tried so hard with Great Comet, and was so let down. Experience was great for the first few minutes, then that faded while the rest of the show let me down. I also spent a lot of the show wondering why Groban signed on to sit in a stage hole in the dark for much of the production.
DEH, meanwhile, has stayed with me to the point where I have seen it again. And the performance only got stronger and more impactful after the first time. I agree that the storyline isn't totally buttoned up, but it entertains and emoted a lot more feeling for me.
And what more can we say about Ben Platt that hasn't been said already ? Watching him is unlike most any other performance I can remember. He doesn't have the voice of Groban, but his performance is transformative and will send young kids towards chasing their broadway dream for years.
I can't imagine a scenario in which RBJ is not considered a featured performer in DEH. It's the quintessential "supporting mom" role.
RBJ was my favorite performance in Dear Evan Hansen and I expect her to be a frontrunner for the Supporting Tony, but I echo everyone else's praise for Amber Gray. I've seen her in both this and An Octoroon, and she was sensational both times. Someone needs to write her a fabulous starring role.
I'm a big fan of both Amber Gray and RBJ, but this is RBJ's year. She was snubbed for Pippin and her performance is brilliant and touching without being predictable.
I predict that if Hadestown transfers next year (which I really hope it does) Amber Gray might be the frontrunner for Best Lead Actress next year.
I love Amber Gray, too. Her "Charming" is a showstopper; Lilli Cooper, while certainly a great performer and arguably a more technically proficient singer, wasn't able to nail the song the same way when she played Helene in Boston. Amber Gray has real star quality and brings it to every role she plays.

We can't forget about Brittain Ashford... Her subtle, nuanced performance is breathtaking, and "Sonya Alone" consistently stops the show. Plus, she has had such an inspiring journey to Broadway... She wasn't even an actress before Comet!

I agree. When I saw The Great Comet two years ago at the Kazino tent, Ashford's song "Sonya Alone" was the only song from the show that emotionally hit me.
Just saw both these this weekend and preferred DEH. I liked them both a lot. I think I might have preferred GC more if I had been a little more familiar with the music beforehand as it was difficult for me to concentrate on what I was listening to rather than seeing.

Agree. This is Rachel's year, even now, everyone agrees Amber is amazing but everyone is talking about Rachel. I also think that these 2 shows have there pro's and con's but I think to sort of even it out Comet will be more favorable with the design awards while DEH will be more the acting awards if that makes sense.

Agreed. I'd really like to see Steele win Best Featured Actor.
