Its not 100% the same no but very, very, very similar! You have to admit it!
>I am not that enamoured by the the new artwork. The original remains the best I think along with the National Theatre logo.<
Really? I think the 1992 Broadway revival title treatment still looks pretty modern and sharp. It also says "musical comedy". It's one of Doug Johnson's best logos.

I like it. It evokes classic Broadway posters for me.

This artwork is both fun and sexy. I think it is great! Get's me excited for the show.
Can't stand it, has really put me off seeing it (If the show itself didnt do that anyway) But do have to agree with Mama that they stole, if not identically, but at least the idea, from the London logo!

I wasn't under the impression that the National Theatre owns the trademark on cursive type.
>I wonder when the Marquee will go up?<
Probably when there's a marquee. Right now, there's just metal beams sticking out of the building where the marquee used to be.
Smaxie, when I mentioned about the lettering being very, very similar to the National Theates production it was only because it just showed a real lack of originality in the new Broadway poster- thats all and it's been noticed by quiet a number of people and that is why I made comment.
Its amazing how people are so ready to attack another poster on such a simple comment.
**from the second I saw it I thought it was a a fake anyway, notice how the OP hasn't returned to pay comment etc.

Without attacking (because I don't feel I am), Pal Joey uses a cursive type too. So does the "Rose" sign in your avatar. That doesn't mean they are all derivative of the National Theatre's Guys and Dolls logo.
Its for the same show 'Guys And Dolls' though!!!!!
This thread has been a nice little reminder to me why I dont use the Broadway board, as your not allowed an opinion!
Very well, snowflake. If it makes you happy, then yes, they're identical.
I mean, the G loops at the bottom and not the top on the left, and it loops at the top and not the bottom on the right. And the S on the left is more upright than the one on the right, which has a distinct rightwards lean; also it doesn't have the nice little serif that the one on the left has. And the Y on the left has a lovely loop which the one on the right doesn't. And the slant's different, and the word on the right looks noticeably bolder. And the shadowing (is there a proper word for that?) is MUCH deeper on the one on the right. And it goes in a different direction.
But the U looks pretty similar! One out of four ain't bad when seeking to prove that things are identical! So well done you! In this case, as in every other that you turn your opinion to, you are supremely correct! Let's have a parade to celebrate!
They used a similar cursive font for "Guys," to suggest the style of 1950s neon Times Square advertising and then went off in a different direction for "and Dolls". To be honest, I never even thought of the National's artwork when I looked at this production's title treatment.
Jeez will you listen to you guys, and of course, the wonderful wisdom of Weez again with her condescending remarks as usual. A parade! Children please!
It was observation and I get attacked for it.
Snowflake! Please!

ALL THIS over a broadway show's poster artwork?
C'mon guys, really. . .
since when is pixelation ok at this level?
since when can people not use a lasso tool in photoshop?
where did the iconic graphic logos like that of Funny Girl, The Wiz, Godspell, and even Lion King and Wicked go? Those graphics are timeless and definitive of the show... Even Little Mermaid is pretty good
I posted the artwork and was under the impression that it was authentic; I got it from another message board. I suppose it is possible that it was photoshopped by a fan, but it was NOT done by me (I wish I had that much time on my hands). I'll try and figure out the source.
The new poster looks very overcrowded cos of the background being lit up as well as the lettering. Almost definitely looks fake to me. Disgusting and tacky looking. Looks like something I'd expect a local AmDram to have as their Guys & Dolls poster, but worse! I am obsessed with Donmar logo! I love it! :) Maybe it'd be a tad nicer if there were more on the poster (e.g a skyline in black on the red background or vice versa) but the lettering...I love it! :) Very showbiz and fun. Makes me expect a brilliant show, and that is exactly what I got at the Piccadilly ^^
Isn't this new production the Donmar one? Or was that in Australia...?
No. The Donmar production transfer fell through after they couldn't get the stars they wanted. This is a completely new and different production (although how new and different can any production of Guys and Dolls really be?)
God, I wish I had seen the Donmar production.
