I think she's a wonderful performer, I just question her work ethic.
She actually went on a long leave from Wedding Singer, after missing many performances.

I'm just using fact to state my opinion.
I could post a million of your "obsessed rants", none of which include a formal sentence.
All I can say is...wow!

I didn't think you would ever agree with me, Pennywise
"Leave Walt Disney Theatricals new sparkling production of The Little Mermaid on Broadway alone!!!"
lakezurich will be played by Paul Groves in the BWW musical

There are at least five cut Gypsy numbers:
"Nice, She Ain't"
"Smile, Girls"
"Mama's Talking Soft"
"Three Wishes for Christmas"
"Who Needs Him?"

Posted: 2/22/08 at 9:32pmgypsy, Mama's Talkin' Soft was cut because the young actresses did not want to be on a high platform for the song, which the staging called for.

Posted: 2/22/08 at 9:37pmOh, wonderfulwizard beat me to it. Yeah, the song was supposed to be in right before "Small World" and it was for the young June and Louise. But Jerome Robbins staged it on a high platform that scared the two young actresses and so it was cut. There was definitely at least another song or two cut out of town because apparently Robbins was being a Nazi about the material, cutting anything he thought "irrelevant" in order to make the show more fluid. "Little Lamb" was going to be one of those songs, but Styne told Robbins he would withdraw the entire score if that song were cut.

When I say choreography arrangements I mean staging not music arrangements.

BobbyBubby rightly said:
"I would rather see a performer who can do the full 8 shows a week."
Has that happened very often in the last 30 years? Today's performers aren't up to a full schedule, even with mics.

You're right Tom, this is a huge problem. Performers seem to be missing more and more performances. Not just Benanti, but La Chanze, Emily Skinner, Donna Murphy...all very talented women, but I've seen understudies for all in more than 1 show. I don't think it is fair to your fans, your understudy, and the show. If someone has health problems, they owe it to their health to get better. I had to work through a bad illness; it sucked. Still...many of these performers blame injury and illness, something they could have fixed by taking the time to mend.
Most every Elphaba is out quite often. They blame it on being a marathon role but so is Mame, Dolly, Rose, Mrs. Lovett, etc.
I think it is time that producers stop casting performers that cannot do 8 shows a week. I mean, when Cassie has to skip the Saturday mat. what has theatre come to?

Tom, many performers are very capable of doing eight shows a week. And besides, even Merman missed performances.
And Bobby, Murphy explained what was going on during Wonderful Town:

Me too. I've refused to get my hopes up since the beginning on purpose. I need to see the name of a label (I know one's been tossed around UNofficially) and recording studio dates in a press release before I celebrate on this one.
(I've hoped and hoped for recordings of revivals and been left disappointed too many times to assume anything)

Posted: 3/21/08 at 12:01amIf it comes out, I'll buy it. Completeness is a big factor for me when it comes to choosing recordings.
With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
"Not Barker, Todd is the only person I've ever known who could imitate Katherine Hepburn...in print." -nmartin-

The recording is definitely happening on Time Life/Warner Bros Records. This is from the record co. it will be recorded either on 4/7-4/8 or 4/28 or 4/29. Final contracts are being signed now. It will be the most complete musically recording of "Gypsy," plus 6 cut songs from the original Broadway production. There will be one, using a newly found original Sid Ramin-Robert Ginzler orchestration. An announcement will be coming from Time Life in the next few weeks.

Posted: 3/21/08 at 12:48amI was hoping someone would dredge up this thread again, as I was too lazy to go back the 80 or so pages since we last talked about it. I am anxiously awaiting this new recording, as I have exausted listening to all the other ones (though I don't have the first movie version yet...)
