Finally saw this this weekend and it's honestly the best thing playing in London right now. It was riveting and poignantly political while still being absolutely stunning. I think it's near perfection. The staging was great and at some points breathtaking like in "We Build a Wall". I don't know why they would change much. It felt like such an important show for this point in history and there were so many layers to its meaning, while still being about the timeless mythology.
I also didn't realize that Orpheus & Eurydice wasn't super well known (I studied it in like 6th grade) but the reactions of everyone around me at the end made that clear!

I think it's less that people don't know the myth but that the production handles it in such a way that you forget what you know and hope for something different.
I know when I saw the show at NYTW, the end still was emotional for me.
I saw this today and I hated it. It reminded me of once and great comet, both of which I found to be absolute garbage. Also, people posting things like “this is the best musical currently playing in London” really ruins it for other people. Its nowhere near as good as Hamilton, which I’m not saying I’m a huge fan of but I appreciate its artistry and brilliance. Had I gone in with an open mind, and not such high expectations, I might have enjoyed it more. Reeve Carney should never be allowed to be in a musical ever again. He doesn’t even have a magnificent voice to make up for the fact that he is not an actor. Every time he opened his mouth or moved his feet, I was completely taken out of the story. I’m seriously appalled. This will not make money on Broadway. It can’t even sell at the National, and usually their stuff is sold out by default.
I saw The Inheritance last night and tonight. That’s a masterpiece that should have been brought to New York in the first place, and probably the best production in London right now.
Also, the ending of Hadestown was a HUGE let down after someone posted in this thread what a big shock it was.
It seems to me people involved with the production have written these insanely positive reviews on these boards to sell tickets. It doesn’t help!
The reviews are definately mixed in London. I am surprised by this news having seen it at the New York Theater Workshop.

Saw this at the weekend. It was just ok. Performers did well, despite the bland material.
Production values were as you would expect from the wonderful NT.
You can tell a broadway producer is attached to this. It's designed solely with the NY run in mind, middle of the road, upset no one and yes, bland!
Saw this over the weekend. After seeing the workshop, they runied this show big time. IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT. What coulda been a great show was a waste of 2 hours
i'm not sure if this is the best place to post, but i'm looking for a program from this production. i ordered from the NT's online store a few days ago and their customer service rep e-mailed me with a PDF and issued a refund because they're sold out.
if you're willing to part with yours, i'm willing to trade a fold out poster and family map from the japanese production of great comet (n some great comet japan candy) and/or flyers from other japanese shows!
I wish I could help, but would you be willing to PM me that PDF?
