I did listen to this, because of the Tony wins mostly, but I didn't care for it. It wasn't an enjoyable recording for me, the songs weren't particularly memorable and some of the performances (such as Andre De Shields, whom I typically enjoy) seemed a bit overdone. It's doubtful I'll want to listen again, but you never know.
Gotta agree with AADA81 - the music is rather snoozy. Same way I felt in the theatre. Everything started sounding the same and I got bored pretty quickly.
I love the cast album. Seeing and hearing it live is more powerful (obviously) but I still think the cast album is excellent. The music is just absolutely beautiful and the lyrics are so well thought out. One of the better scores I’ve ever heard. It was a true experience to life through this show and hearing the songs for the first time as they performed them. I also especially love ‘Way Down Hadestown’ I think André De Shields and Amber Grey really shine in this song. (Wait for me reprise, all I’ve ever known, chant, are some of my favorites!)

Whaaaa. That's odd to hear. I find the music riveting and refreshing.
