Has there been no details released as to a physical CD release for this album? I noticed only the digital version was listed on Amazon and can’t seem to find a physical copy listed anywhere else.
Anyone else find the applause in the opening number extremely silly? Not only does it strike me as a little odd that they would include applause on a studio album, but it’s also such a mild smattering. Sounds so unenthusiastic! It made me laugh in a way that they didn’t intend.
^ ^ ^ I haven’t seen the show yet (32 days and counting!) but I took that applause (and the reactions, etc.) as that of the ensemble and not a live theatre audience.
PS...just downloaded the new OBCR and have been listening to it this afternoon. :)
Listened to the whole thing in one go last night at work, and it's probably one of the best cast recordings I've heard in a while. You can really appreciate when the producers of a cast recording want to make a legitimate album and not just a souvenir for the stage show. It's so well produced, they're not afraid to add effects to the voices or other instruments that aren't in the show.

Closest I have to an answer: "
A Broadway cast recording was released in full on July 26, 2019 through Sing It Again Records.[18][19] A physical two-CD recording will be available at a later date.[20]"

Listening to it now from the beginning (I’m 4 songs in) and I’m loving it. It sounds great. I’m even more excited to see it on September 27th now. I’m going to have to make myself not listen too much to this between now and then so as to not rob myself of all sense of discovery when I finally see it."
My advice, which you are free to ignore, is to stop listening. This isn't a cast recording you need to devour beforehand. It's one of those shows that's great to experience live without knowing everything beforehand. I sometimes make the mistake to listening to too much beforehand too, so I understand. But it's a pretty easy story to follow when you're in the audience, and there's a magic to watching it play out.
bear88, thanks. I have also done this in the past. Most notably with Dear Evan Hansen. I listened to the cast recording obsessively off and on from the time it was digitally released until I saw it right before Platt left in November 2017. I expected to remain emotional throughout the show, but I remained dry-eyed until the couch scene spurred by an important detail that I had not gleaned from the OBCR. I almost did the same thing with the revival of Spring Awakening where I had imagined how each song would fit in, but partway into Act 1 I was able to let go of my preconceived expectations and be transported by the production that was in front of me.
So, duly noted. I listened to the OBCR all the way through once and loved it, but I’ll try yo wait to listen again until after September 27th. Thanks!
Anyone have any issues with playback? I have 2 different places where (in between songs) it stops playing entirely...if i manually go to the song and click next, its fine, but its own, it gets "stuck".
My music comes from an Amazon download and, so far, happens when listening from the cloud. I'll be teying both directly from my echo and the dl on my phone.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

Yes, I discussed this earlier in the thread. Most notably between Epic II and Chant. I hope they fix it and reupload.

No, I ended up buying from iTunes. I haven’t confirmed other reports’ vendors but I suspect the issue is the same on multiple platforms. Reminds me of similar issues with the Hamilton instrumental album.

Daniel, I interpreted your initial comments that the lack of smooth transitions between some songs bothered you. Dramamama is saying that the album completely quits playing until they hit “play” again. Are you having that issue as well? I didn’t have that issue (Apple Music here) although I do have the issue with some lack of smooth transitions which isn’t that bothersome to me.

Thank you for pointing that out. I misread and misunderstood the details Dramamama’s issue.

No. The applause you hear is the actors on stage. During the opening scene, the entire cast is on stage as he introduces them and the cast is applauding. It’s not the audience you hear.

When I saw the show, the applause was loud and mystifying to me, as we don't know the characters but we're asked to welcome them as if we do. I couldn't figure out whether the applause was a recording or was really coming from audience members. But at the end, when the circular nature of the narrative became clear, the opening applause made sense. Of course we knew the characters, it's a tale told again and again.
Re: the lyric changes - I only saw the show once (the current Bway version) before listening to the album and haven't heard the off-Broadway album. I didn't notice any lyric changes because I didn't know the lyrics well enough before listening. Could someone please tell me what the original lyrics were juxtaposed with the new lyrics on the album? I'd also like to know if the changes were made in the move from off- to Broadway (from OOBC to OBC) or if the lyrics on the album are actually different than the ones currently performed in the show.
So. Re: my dl issues from earlier posts. The problem is really my "echo" and/or Amazon's cloud. When I play it directly from the dl, its fine.

Throughout July 2019, select tracks were released based on specific characters' songs, building to the full album release on July 26. By the end of July, the album had received 5.9M streams and counting. • The deluxe 2-CD set comes with a 64-page booklet, including full libretto and breathtaking production photos. • A limited edition 3LP vinyl box set — including libretto and free download code — is also available.
Often the theaters have it even a few days before the actual release. That being said...its almost always cheaper elsewhere.

I did the same thing. Although I’ve been familiar with it for years, I wanted to just be in the moment when we saw it live. Not comparing and analyzing. Now that I think of it, we did the same thing with Hamilton. Took a month off of listening on heavy rotation.
