HAIR TO CLOSE JUNE 27TH

Posted: 6/9/10 at 5:27pmIt was never sold out. It never got the cache of a hot ticket. They had to hustle to get ass on the seats. I thought this could have gone for a few years .

"i was 10 months early"
No, you were wrong, and besides you've changed their closing date so many times who the hell could keep up? What is it with you and obsession with being a self-described Broadway prophet, massomen? If you're not ranting about ROA, you're yammering about a prediction of when some show is closing, then gleefully announcing its closing if you're remotely near your target date, no matter how many times you've changed it.
Give it a rest. Please.

The new cast was definitely NOT to blame for the show closing. Outside of a few butt hurt OBC fans who bashed them constantly on Twitter, TGO, or while standing outside the American Idiot lotto, most who saw the new cast enjoyed them. Closing rumors were dogging this show long before the OBC cast headed to London, so this isn't some "victory" of the OBC cast over the replacements. The show just ran out of steam and isn't one of those shows destined to run for 10 years.
Everybody involved in the production should hold their heads up high. The revival was a wonderful piece of theatre and I'll remember highlights such as Gavin and Kyle as Claude; Ace's surprisingly great Berger; Paris, Josh, Wooten, Larkin, and Annaleigh stealing the show at various points; Diana's showstopping "Easy to be Hard," among other highlights. I wish them all the best and hope to see some on tour.

Posted: 6/9/10 at 5:46pmTrue Dame, but what was the last revival that was TRULY a hot ticket? SOUTH PACIFIC was sold out for the first few months of its run, but that was at the subscription based LCT. HAIR was definitely a hot ticket in the park. The only shows I think that really qualify as hot tickets on Broadway are new musicals- on one hand, WICKED, BILLY ELLIOTT, JERSEY BOYS and ADDAMS FAMILY.

"It was never sold out. It never got the cache of a hot ticket. They had to hustle to get ass on the seats. I thought this could have gone for a few years ."
Also they had soooo many GROUPS go.
Farewell to it, I didn't care for it at all, never got why it even caught on as much as it did. Although I am surprised it announced its closing for just 2 weeks, I would have thought there'd be a bit of a rush for this one at the end.

It had a great run...519 performances (plus previews) is nothing to pooh-pooh for a revival.
I do believe the show was beginning to go South toward the end of the OBC run, and the new cast was pretty much the coup de grace.

As saddened as I am to see this show go, everyone knew it was coming. I am happy though that I will see it for my 5th and 6th time this month. Especially shocked as they didn't wait for summer. It looks like the theater kicked them out. It is a 2 week notice which is what they give.
I wouldn't be shocked to hear how the producers were waiting, and got the call from the theater owners and said they're done.

Posted: 6/9/10 at 6:03pmWho's gonna line up for the free TKTS on Friday morning? I have another show booked for Friday night, so I can't go.

Posted: 6/9/10 at 6:03pmI'm sure they kicked them out as well, but A TALE of TWO CITIES was given the boot so Hair could come in within 2 months, but of course Hair lost funding or something and got a little delayed until March, so unless the Hirschfeld has something lined up within the next months, I don't see why they'd kick them out now.

This is from PLAYBILL...
The closing news is bittersweet: The Broadway production will celebrate its 500th performance June 11 and will offer 500 free tickets to the first fans in line outside the Al Hirschfeld Theatre when the box office opens at 10 AM. Each individual may receive one ticket.

NIGHT MUSIC also sold out several weeks for their first couple of months.
On a semi unrelated note, WEST SIDE STORY which lost the Tony to HAIR will now outrun it. I can't say I'm surprised.

"it was a good show...till the new cast raped it..."
Sorry to divert topics for a second but could we PLEASE stop using rape as an adjective. It sounds stupid and frankly it trivializes the word. Its offensive and you sound absurd when you use it. Sorry I don't usually get worked up over things but that word drives me nuts when used like that.
And for the record, I thought both the OBC and the new cast were wonderful. Both had their strong features. The cohesiveness of the OBC made the show as special as it is, but I was really very moved by the new cast as well. I thought Kyle was a wonderful Claude.

I was just going to post this, ljay.
I am so happy that WSS will have run longer than HAIR. WSS would have gotten my vote for Best Revival last season and I hope it has a long a healthy run ahead.
I'm glad that both London and NYC will be free of HAIR.

What a charming remark.
I would watch your tongue because your precious half-assed WSS revival isn't going to be around much longer.
