I finally got to see this yesterday in London - a wonderful end to a great birthday. I absolutely loved it; the minutes flew by and I had a permanent smile on my face the whole way through that must have made me look somewhat deranged. And I am off to see it again tomorrow - and possibly not for the last time either!! This musical holds many memories as it was the very first musical I saw when I first visited Broadway. Thank you for this stunning musical and this terrific film.
My question: what extras can we expect on the dvd release of the film later in the year?
What would The Dynamites like to say to the new girl in town?
"I mean, sitting side by side with another man watching Patti LuPone play Rose in GYPSY on Broadway is essentially the equivalent of having hardcore sex." -Wanna Be A Foster.
"Say 'Goody.' Say 'Bubbi.'" ... "That's it. Exactly as if it were 'Goody.' Now I know you're gonna sing 'Goody' this time, but nevertheless..."

1) You've discussed the reason for the numbers that were altogether cut for the movie, but I'm curious as to why "It Takes Two" was so shortened? I really enjoy Zac's version on the soundtrack.
2) Will there be vocal selections released for the movie? Specifically, I'm interested in "I Know Where I've Been" in Queen Latifah's key...
What were you all holding? And were they just blank pages?
"Zac is sweet as can be. He's very much just a sweet kid from California who happens to have a face that looks like it was drawn by Michelangelo, (if Michelangelo did anime)." -Adam Shankman.
"I haven't left this building since Windows 3.1!"
"Celebrating a birthday this week: Rene Descartes is 412! Do you know who he is? Then why are you watching this show? You could probably get into college and even get one of those job things. As for the rest of us; Amanda Bynes is 22! Yay!" -E!'s "The Soup"
I saw it for a second time this afternoon and loved the underscoring for the scene with Tracy and Wilbur in the Hardy Har Hut.
Question: Why was Scott's seat empty for a portion of, "You Can't Stop the Beat". I know it was in the background, but on repeated viewing of things, I like to observe what else is going on.

"Beating AIDS and extreme, stupid poverty, this is our moon shot. This is our civil rights struggle, our anti-apartheid movement. This is what the history books will remember our generation for--or blame us for, if we fail."-Bono
Hey, Marc, just got back from viewing #3, which may or may not be my last for a while (probably not, but I'm going off to college in a couple weeks and, well, I'll need some of my money!).
I stayed through the whole credits again, and I thought I saw that one of the "Special Thank"-ed was Major League Baseball Productions. Why exactly is that? I mean, I love baseball as much as the next guy (I'm from St. Louis), but what did they do? And hate to put a (small) plot hole out there, but why was Prudy watching the Miss Hairspray competition if The Corny Collins Show is The Devil?
PS - If The Simpsons Movie ends up sucking, rest assured I'll be seeing Hairspray at least once next weekend, too!
"Who is Stephen Sondheim?" -roninjoey "The man who wishes he had written Phantom of the Opera!" - SueleenGay

Hi Marc! Needless to say, the movie was amazing. But I'm curious, what are your thoughts on the the national tour of Hairspray going non-equity? Did you have any problems with this decision?
Also, I'm not complaning one bit, but how come it took so long for Hairspray to cross the pond? I'm glad it had a bit of time in between the U.S. premiere, and I think the movie will cause enormous interest for the U.K. show. However, what with shows like The Drowsy Chaperone and the upcoming Jersey Boys taking little more than a year to open in the West End, Hairspray took much longer in comparison. Also, will the Broadway creative team all be reprising their duties in London?
No matter what anyone says, the Non-Eq tour was the best tour and probably the best cast I have ever seen in my whole life, even though I know you weren't asking me. Oh, please have there be a London Cast Recording!

Marc, the casting of Zac and Amanda was brilliant. My kids are theatre pros, but it is Zac that caused us to go this weekend. Who is primarily responsible for casting Zac?
My question is regarding the score. Mentioned here and in other articles you've said that "Without Love" is based on the duets of Tammi Terrell and Marvin Gaye and "You Can't Stop the Beat" is an homage to Phil Spector and Tina Turner's collaboration on "River Deep, Mountain High"... are other songs from the show an homage to the music and songs of the 60s?
Oh yes, and I told the record company we should make a compilation album called HAIRSPRAY:THE ROOTS that is made up of all the records that inspired Scott & I.
