You don't think they'll release it to cinemas one week a year, a la NationalTheatreLive? After they screen it for a week, they put it "back in the vault," so to speak, never intending to release it for private ownership.

I'm still waiting on the release of A Year with Frog and Toad that was filmed over a decade ago. Kate Reinders even used to mention the video as a credit in her Playbill bio, though she doesn't anymore. I'm guessing it'll never happen at this point.

No, I don't.

The Phantom movie flopped, but Chicago was a huge hit that won Best Picture. In either case, neither result hurt the stage show. If anything they helped with wider recognizability."
Apples and oranges. No one is talking about a movie version of the property; this is about releasing a film captured at a live performance with the OBC. As I said above, the conventional wisdom among producers is that a real movie version sells tickets to the stage show, but that is obviously at least 5 and more likely 10 years away.
What are the chances that Groff and the original ensemble members with reunite for this?
The sound of Hamilton is contemporary for a successful Broadway show, but intentionally dated. I don't think it draws on any cultural-musical reference later than Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love" album; in fact, it's so back-thinking that Jefferson's "What'd I Miss" seems to draw on "Cleanin' Up the Town" from the first Ghostbusters movie.

^Myopia, or the act of not seeing the forest for the trees. The amount of pseudo-analytical misapprehension on this board is reaching fever proportions.

Jonathan Groff is going to be on the TODAY show on June 28th. Maybe while he's in town he'll drop by to film a little part of a musical he was in.... ![]()
I've heard the adage repeatedly that to sound contemporary on Broadway, think what still works from popular music twenty years ago. That's what LMM did- there's no cringeworthy dubstep sequence that will immediately be "too 2016" in a decade like "Contact" sticks out in RENT.
Have you heard the adage that adages are BS?
And where did you get the idea Contact "sticks out"?
Pseudo-analysis lives on BWW!
So does pretension and ill-placed superiority uguyz!!!
Contact really is a terrible song.
Nowack, you changed your icon!
Added some lovely Barbara-Cook-as-Amalia flair!
It's always been said Broadway is about 10 years behind popular music. Wicked kind of took off from the pop power ballads of the 90s, Rap has been around since the 70s... So not a revolutionary contact.
I do do wonder how the Tupac musical would do now that Hamiilton is such a success..
^
Holla If You Hear Me would have a slightly longer run because people seem more open to the idea of such different musical styles in a show, but it would not run long because the book was paper thin. Nothing made you really care abut the characters and their actions. Talented cast, but they had zilch to work with.
did you guys hear it's allegedly being filmed today??
the show is dark today, no?

The Cancellation Line thread would be the folk to ask since they live on that line for 88 hours or more. Maybe they saw some moving and action--unless they are so tired they didn't notice.
