i know im late in the convo but I'm going to the open call on saturday too. I went to one last year too. I think I met you there Bwaybaby109...i could be wrong though lol. Anyway I also went to the Boston open call for wicked, hairspray, and rent. I got a call-back for maureen. It was fun but in the end I was too young haha i lied and said i was 18 and well....im not but i will be in like 17 days haha. Anyway I can't wait I love auditions. and I'm not really like extremely thin but I'm not tracey material but I'm just going to be seen anyway this will be the 3rd time they'll be seeing me...they have to get sick of me soon ahhaa
o and about into the woods. I did it twice playing "the Witch" MY FAVORITE SHOW. haha
wicked_mimi~ i've done about 15 shows with leads in almost all of them and taken voice for about 4 years and 7 yrs of dance...but all with community/high school theatre. nothing professional or anything like that.
seeing as they are looking for an unknown and you think you fit the part, i don't know why you didn't get one. you never know. could be because they didn't have a good lunch for all we know. haha. maybe they aren't finished sending them out either so i definately wouldn't give up hope. go anyway and show them what you got! :)

Isn't the one in NYC an Open Call as well? Who cares if you got an e-mail or not, just go and blow them away :)
If you look the part and think you could do it, give it a shot. Who knows maybe your application got lost or someone had a bad day or whatever... what does it matter, just show them that you're the one they're looking for!

Awww you guys are sooo supportive! :) Goodluck to you all too!
wow I'm so excited for you all who auditioned and who are going to audition! I'm so jealous! After reading all your stories I am so tempted to lie about my age and just go to the Chicago audition. I don't know if I caould get away with it though. Man I never thought I would wish I was underage again!
i love your madame roosevelt quote! :)
i sent in an email and got a reply, sadly i don't live near any of the open calls so i have to go with the video tape option
Thanks BrightEyed:) I'm a sucker for artistic inspirational quotes. I have it on a magnet on my refrigerator! Corny I know but I like seeing it everyday.

That is a fantastic quote

I have this one on the frige too!
I don't remember there being an age limitation on tracy to audition - what is it?
Is it too late to still send in your resume and headshots if you can't make open calls? Did they put a deadline on that?
Sorry - life's been crazy between being in shows and work and choreographing shows, etc...my friend just emailed me to tell me I had to go to this with him in Chi-town, I didn't even hear about it before a few days ago, but I'm already committed to this huge benefit for a theatre that's like a second home and second family to me, and we have rehearsal til midnight friday and then all day saturday since the show's sunday so I can't go to chicago with him and other friends....it hadn't really sunk in cause I just kept thinking "ah well, I'd have never gotten it anyway, I look horrible in pics and on film" but....I dunno.
Now it hit me that this could be a big shot at something and I can't really do it. I'm just hoping I didn't miss the deadline for sending in an application.
...and that if I didn't and it goes well that it's not like "come to nyc in 2 days"...cause with my luck, I'll have two bucks in the bank and be in the middle of a tech week that I obviously can't miss....

JesstifymyLove, are you talkinga bout the open calls in NYC last Jan? Because I was there! Did anyone get any call backs from those? I wonder? That would be cool if we did meet last year!
Is anyone going to the chicago auditions? I'm going by myself and I'm kind of a little scared, so it'd be nice to meet up with someone?
Ashley
Ps. I didn't get an email either, but I'm still going because even if nothing happens from it, it will be a great experience and a lot of fun!
The character description said they were looking for someone 16-21 to play Tracy. I'm 25. Boo! Otherwise fxy I would probably meet up with you in Chicago.
Awww That totally sucks! I'm almost 21 but for now I'm 20 so woot for being the right age for once!! hehe
hope to see you there :)

Bwaybaby109 im pretty sure we met there u look so familar and i think we're friends on myspace? hahah lol
and i dont think that they did call backs for Jan.
I'm going to the Chicago audition. I'm so excited! I randomly found out about the casting call (I didn't even know they were making it a movie) from a girl in a production with me. Tracy has been my dream role ever since I saw the show on Broadway, and I'm so excited to have this chance!
so, i sent my pictures and application in about two weeks ago, just for fun, and i didn't get an e-mail or anything, so i figured that that was it (i'm 24, and i remember reading that the cutoff age was 21, so i figured i was too old).
but this morning when i woke up, i had a voicemail on my phone from hairspray casting calling to ask me to confirm that i would be at the ny open call on saturday and if not, to please call them back so they could explain to me exactly how to put myself on tape. i have an important engagement this satruday, so i won't be able to make the audition (plus i'm just getting over a super bad chest cold, so my voice is shot), but i'm going to call about the video tape option.
anyone else get this call? it sounds just like the e-mail you all received, just in a different form!
i think that's so neat that they called you. so much more personal than email.
i'm so excited about these auditions! woot!
:)

and people who are worried because you haven't received any email or anything, don't worry. they are still extremely early in the casting process. you could get one any time, any day. :)
Yeah, that's reassuring! I'm really excited...even if no one calls or emails me, I'm going darn it! hehe...no really I'll still get to go to chicago which is cool enough as it is and MAYBE get day of performance tickets to see wicked... *crossing fingers*
i got the email too. but i didnt list any experiance and im not 16-21. maybe they just really liked my picture? but i dont think im gonna make to the audition cause i have a broken leg. but maybe ill send in a tape who knows. i just really sent in the form to see what happens.
what do you guys think they are doing as far as casting the rest of the show? I know there has been talk of possible calls in the future for ensemble......but do you guys think it is a good or bad idea to go to the open calls even if you dont look like the 3 parts they are casting?
i don't fit any of the three roles if you're going by looks. i can sing and act the part of tracy, just don't have the "tracy" look at all. but i'm going anyways and i'm gonna sing my lil heart out. :)
i really fit the role of penny, so i'm going with hopes of them seeing in me a possible penny or member of the ensemble....anything.lol.
if you don't get a call back for any of the roles, is that it? or could you be called back at a later date? thanks, y'all. this thread has been the source of a lot of helpful info!
