Wait, I have 3-5-0-0 and What a Piece of Work is Man from the OBC
I was gonna say... I'm pretty sure I have those songs on my version of the OBC!
~Steven
I don't think they are offered on iTunes, perhaps?
June 9 can't get here fast enough.
I bought the CD issue of the OBC when it was released with the extra tracks not included on the original LP, but honestly, get the new remastered Deluxe Edition from 2003. It is a double-disc edition including the OBC and the original Off-Off-Broadway recording plus several interview sessions with McDermot. Amazon has it for a steal at $9.99. It's worth the extra ten bucks.
FYI - Be-In (aka "Hare Krishna"), 3-5-0-0 and What a Piece of Work is Man were on the original OBC LP. There are some very slight noticeable differences in the LP and CD versions of My Conviction. The previously unreleased tracks left off the LP were:
Ain't Got No (reprise)
I Believe in Love
Going Down
Electric Blues
Manchester England (reprise)
The Bed
As a companion, I strongly urge people to get the 2001 Vienna cast recording (sung in English). It is noticeable for the fact that the orchestrations and arrangements were completely updated to a modern sound and though I normally would balk at the idea, it is one of the best recordings of Hair out there. That recording also includes Dead End, The War and Hippie Life.
For more traditional tracks of Dead End and The War, you can also try the 1992 Australian Cast (both tracks) or the "Original London Cast" (Dead End), which is actually a compilation of tracks from the 1968 London Cast, studio sessions and selected tracks from Fresh Hair.
Out of curiousity, would the protest at the induction center (the yipping) be included with the Ain't Got No (Reprise)? I would really love to have that recorded.
I'm glad that they're making such a complete recording. I hope that Sh-K-Boom does an early digital release... June 9th seems so far away.
...and as much as I love bonus tracks, it seems like this recording has virtually every piece of music in the show. Why are people bitter that it doesn't have songs that aren't even in this production?
They aren't necessarily bitter, except possibly for the fact that some of the material was cut for the revival. Just thinking aloud.
God, I can't wait for this!
I love that this score is getting so much re-attention.
Thanks for all the heads up about European versions.
The new cast is so amazing vocally that the CD will be incredible.
is there a reason "hippie life" isn't in the show that we know of? I love that sonG!
Was it ever actually intended to be in the show?

On the 1992 European Tour Cast Recording, Hippie Life was after I Got Life, but I feel like it's best used as an encore, like the Vienna and Czech casts did. I actually really like it on the Vienna cast recording. Not so much in the show, I've always felt that the show does a good enough job of demonstrating all the things that are said in Hippie Life, the audience doesn't need a song to spell it out for them. ...if that didn't make sense, I'm really tired.
is there a reason "hippie life" isn't in the show that we know of? I love that sonG!
There have been quite a few versions of Hair over the years...Rado has been revising it with every new high-profile production, it seems. This is not the first production to leave out "Hippie Life" (or "The Bed" or "Dead End" for that matter), so there's no reason for us to expect them in the show or on the disc as "cut tracks".
Also, and please don't take this the wrong way (you being a lover of the song and all), but, um, "Hippie Life" sucks. It sucks hard.
Or to get the full show get the 2-CD 1970 German recording. The whole show live. Or another way to go is to cobble the OLC, Fresh HAIR and DisinHAIRited together to get extra long version. I've never quite grown to like Hippie Life, it was like 'we need to put in a new song...oh look here's one let's shove it in here." And when I have seen it in the show it was kinda of a self-indulgent number for the person singing it. Me I've love to see "THe Writing on the Wall", or "Washing the World" put in the show then Hippie Life.
It's interesting that they left off some pretty big numbers off the new disk..hmmmm maybe they are just tacked on to other tracks.

The songs on the rereleased OBC recording CD have no place on the current revival recording. There would be absolutely no place to put them. The dramatic arc toward the intense conclusion would be knocked off terribly if they were there.
They're superfluous as far as this specific production goes.
Isn't The Bed the only track from the OBC CD not included in the revival? Or are you talking about the Off-Off-Broadway tracks on the additional disc in the Deluxe edition?
As for me, I would have just preferred bonus tracks instead of the curtain call reprises, but it's not really a complaint. Though it would never happen, I think it would be fantastic to have the revival cast record a new CD of Galt McDermot tunes including some of the cut material from Hair and some tunes from Via Galactica, Dude, Isabel's a Jezebel, Two Gentlemen of Verona, and/or The Human Comedy. So many gems to choose from and the man's body of work truly warrants a CD with some better production values of some of the previously recorded and unrecorded material. But I do acknowledge that I am probably in a very small minority as a fan of his work.

Why would actors learn 3 songs that they don't perform in the show nightly only to perform them for a cast album? Since the majority of this cast has been on-board since the 40th Anniversary concert 2 years ago...and none of the 3 tracks were included there either...it doesn't make sense to record them...
I'm assuming you don't have the recent Gypsy revival recording?

The release date has been changed on both Amazon and B&N to June 23rd. I can't see how it's not a 2 disc release...all those songs will never fit on one CD. Practically every domestic CD released of HAIR has been a double disc set.
No....not further away!!! That's not right!!!!
Practically every domestic CD released of HAIR has been a double disc set.
Huh? The only one I'm aware of is the recently released Deluxe Edition, but the OBC tracks are still only one disc. Which domestic releases are you talking about? One thing you need to remember is that McDermot writes short, economical tunes. Two Gentlemen of Verona has 36 tracks on one CD. Maybe Hair will be two discs, but it's not determined by the number of tracks. Typically, Sheila Franklin is only about 10 seconds long. The OBC clocks in around 66:33. Subtract almost 3 minutes for The Bed and the idea of all the music from the revival fitting on a single disc is not far-fetched at all.
No! June 23 is too far away.
Nooo!
