I read on Anthony Hollock's facepage that he and his parner Martin Gould Cummings were called f**king f**gots and refused service by a taxi driver.
Its despicable that this kind of thing goes on in the world, my heart goes out to them.

I think this is despicable, but why did you make a thread about this? Discrimination happens daily, people are disgusting. And just because he posted it on his facebook for his personal family/friends and fans to see it doesn't mean he wants to make it a bigger deal by posting it here.

Posted: 8/16/09 at 2:03amIt was probably one of the many homophobic black cab drivers that should go back to whatever homophobic continent they came from. On my last visit to NYC the cab driver started making cracks at some gay guy crossing the street and I told him to STFU and he looked like he was going to cry the rest of the drive.

Posted: 8/16/09 at 2:09amI find it very hard to believe that a yellow cab driver would refuse service to gays. Those guys are desperate for fare and they would not turn anyone down. Maybe it was one of those livery cabs and the driver does not venture to Manhattan all that often.

Yes, because racism makes you so much better than the homophobes.

FlyingMonkey1223, it doesn't really help your argument that someone is a homophobe by being racist in the comment that you're making.
With regards to the thread, I do not think that this was thread worthy and I will agree with what has been said that discrimination is all around us and no one really should be shocked when it happens. Is it a good thing? No, of course not. But, one should be far from shocked to find out that it did in fact happen.
Also, I have seen NYC cab drivers refuse service for the most crazy reasons. There are a lot of them out there that don't like stopping for teenagers because there are a lot of teenagers that don't tip them and therefor they aren't going to pick them up. Regardless of the fact that I was an exception to this, they still didn't stop for me. I say was because even though I am nineteen I don't look like a teenager anymore and look like someone in their twenties so this is not a problem for me.

The last time I was in NYC, the cabbie I had gave me his rundown of who he did not pick up and why. It was actually quite funny and would have made a great monologue for an actor. It wasn't really racist at all, it was more stereotypical like he wouldn't pick up woman with too many shopping bags because they are bossy and don't tip, he wont pick up drunks because they throw up in the cab and pay in singles and change, etc. It was pretty entertaining. He did say he liked gay guys, but not if they were loud and screamed a lot in the cab. I didn't know what the meant and I didn't ask questions.
I am sure this story will be covered by Broadway Speaks OUT. Isn't that the blog/show run by Hollock's boyfriend.

Who is Anthony Hollock?
How can a poster be racist with a name like Flying Monkey?
Oh, wait...

I've had friends who posted facebook statuses about incidents that went even further when it came to homophobia, including fist fights and arrests. They never even made the newspaper. It's just the world we live in. Homophobia isn't a theatre community issue, it's a global one.
Also, I was denied cab service twice before within 5 minutes' time. I had two pieces of luggage and was traveling alone. The first two drivers rolled down their windows and asked where I was going. I told them Penn Station. They drove off and shook their heads. The third driver stopped and I got in, after putting my luggage in the trunk. He asked where I was off to, I said Penn Station, he let out a long sigh, and said "OK here we go!" and it took about 30 minutes to get there. I was uptown at about 80th street and 1st. I was denied I guess because of traffic issues at that time?
