I believe Marc said "Mama, I'm A Big Girl Now" was never recorded with the Blonsky, Bynes and Snow.
Marc was about to gather the girls to record it, when he had the brill idea to have the Tracy Trifecta record the song instead.
Mr. Mateo,
Please make a comprehensive list. You're our only hope.
My husband tried to convince the good people at Target to sell him the DVD last night. "Come on. You don't expect me to believe that the truck shows up at a quarter-to-nine in the morning to unload the DVDs, do you? Why can't you just go back and get me one now?"
They didn't relent.
I just yelled at him for not getting it yet today.
My goal: freeze each credit frame and count how many times Marc Shaiman's name appears. (You probably already know, don't you, Marc?)
BDrisch- Yup! Same store. I must have just missed you!
The DVD looks great Marc. This is going to be an even bigger hit on DVD, especially with all the Christmas shopping coming up. Congratulations!
... and of course we would all love to have the bonus tracks!
how humiliating
the ENDLESS crawl at the end that lists each song, one by one is some kind of legal contractual thing. I asked if they could say "All songs by..." and then just list the performers (the other part of that legal contractual thing) but they wouldn't/couldn't
I hope you WILL notice the credit (quite early in the acting credits) for one "Barking Dog"
Yes, you guessed it! I supplied the sound man with a home made recording of the one and only...Walli Woo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hairspray sold just over 100,000 copies in the UK on it's first day of release. I expect this is slightly over the day one forecast.
Anyone know how well it's sold in the US?
Marc - just open the file on your computer marked "Hairspray Film," copy all those files and upload them.
That's my list. :)
(But if you would really like me to make a list, I'd be glad to.)
Paulyd -
We are not quite through the middle of the day - so that info won't be available for awhile. I'm not even sure where one would find that info; But I'd like to know how well it sold as well.
Even if we didn't count any of the song credits, you'd still have a list as high as an elephant's eye or something like that.
Thank gawd you didn't appropriate Walli Woo's sole credit as well!

hehe, its reversable
So Brody was wrong?!
It is a movie boys & girls & not the hope diamond.
Marc, do you by any chance have a list of all the songs recorded on demos? I'd just like to know which songs were recorded before the movie and Broadway album. I would LOVE to have "Velma's Revenge". I have "Miss Baltimore Crabs" and "Vema's Revenge" sung by Jackie Hoffman, which is incredible.
wow, I don't have that! I wanna hear! Updated On: 11/20/07 at 06:19 PM

Got my dvd in the mail yesterday from Amazon.com. Probably won't be able to watch it until next week.... Going home for Turkey Day tomorrow..leaving a jet plane.
Well, husband took kids back to Target today and got the movie. He planned to have them wait until I got home to watch it. No such luck. They opened it in the car and started watching it immediately.
Fun Story: Like most theatre lovers in NYC, my husband has met (the ubiquitous) Marc Shaiman several times. So last night at Target when he was getting nowhere trying to persuade the salesperson to let him have the DVD slightly in advance, in desperation he said, "I've met Marc Shaiman." To which the salesperson replied, completely deadpan, "I don't know who that is."
I guess that kid hasn't read the credits!!!
Saw the film for the first time tonight! I loved it!
I spent all the money I could spend on the dvd now I don't have enough to get the 2-Disk soundtrack with the karaoke version of "Ladies Choice." **CRIES**
Okay...so today I finally put on the Blu-ray edition of the film and to those questioning whether to invest in an HD TV and/or a Blu-ray high-definition DVD player -- THIS is the film to wet your whistle.
The Blu-ray high definition image is simply mind-blowing -- from the colors to the sound. The details high definition can bring out is incredible. Little details you wouldn't even think about stick out in sharp detail -- from the texture of Tracy's bed blanket in the opening to the baby blue eye-shadow and light blue shoes on Michelle Pfeiffer. You end-up looking at little things in the frame composition instead of the main action. Amazing!
The one feature that is ONLY available on the Blu-ray (and which can't be done on standard DVD) is the 'Behind the Beat' feature which is a visual multi-media commentary AS you watch the regular feature.
This is simply done by a picture-in-picture box on the lower left of the screen running in realtime to the film as you're watching it. You see footage of them filming the scene; the rehearsal footage of the dance numbers (as the film version plays side-by-side) to even Nikki Blonsky, Adam Shankman the film's producers visually commenting on the action on screen. Also, the audio alternates from the main feature to the 'Behind the Beat' commentary, so you appreciate the difference from each footage being showcased. To ANY fan of HAIRSPRAY, this feature will blow you away. The footage is hands-down numbing.
One favorite bit especially is seeing shots that weren't included in the finished film...in other words, other camera angles of scenes -- like the full dances that we don't see in "The Nicest Kids in Town" during the shots where we are seeing Tracy and Penny in front of the TV (including the ENTIRE roll call section, which is edited in the finished film -- we don't see ALL of the dancers). Also, watching Michelle Pfeiffer with her long flowing hair rehearsing with the dancers "(The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crabs". Wow!
I'm just watching the film this way right now and I haven't even taken a look at the 2nd disc!
Nothing more to add just that...what a way to see a film. New Line, your first Blu-ray release HAIRSPRAY (which is their introduction to the world of Blu-ray high definition DVD), should be looked at by other studios on how and what to do with their films released on Blu-ray.
Wow!
Can you watch Blu-Rays on Play Station 3?
OK, what's the best way to get the best sound for this from the television? The sound is kind of flat.
Question: On the Shake and Shimmy special features, what's playing on the "Set Up" menu? Is that the "Mamma" score that would have been used during the "Stricken Chicken"?
The ONLY way to watch this film is in it's full 7.1 sound, which regular TV speakers can not produce. In order to do this you need an 7.1 audio receiver with an HDMI connection.
Watching this DVD via your TV speakers is like listening to a CD or your iPod thru a tin can.
No wonder it sounds flat.

I was hoping you'd answer BrodyFosse and that's what I was afraid of. Thanks. I'm going to see if there's a way to hook up my television to my Bose stereo speakers. Then again, I'm in the market for a new television as it is.
