This is much less likely to happen with Hamilton due to the vaccine requirement for cast and crew, and Nederlander's mask requirement for audiences. More shows may follow suit... it's still early though.

Many of the young cast won't have had the opportunity for their second vaccine yet.

Keep in mind that fully vaccinated people still can test positive for Covid.

You can still be fully vaccinated and test positive. If they are going to shut shows down even if everyone is vaccinated and people start testing positive, how long will it be before shows start shutting down every day?

Vaccinated people can still get infected. A houseguest on Big Brother was just replaced while in sequester for testing positive for Covid after being fully vaxxed.

What I meant is that cancelations are least likely with a fully vaccinated team.

Expect this on Broadway as well. It’s why the ticketing policies are so relaxed. Not only are they trying to be lenient with patrons but patrons will need to be lenient with cancellations due to positive tests. Strap on your patience hats folks. Theatre season is ramping up during cold/flu season with the second variant making its move. We all need to be flexible.

I think in this instance we are seeing an example of different countries and different rules. NHS's (UK Health) says people should still follow all the guidelines even if they have been vaccinated. So a positive case would prompt testing and quarantining.
However US CDC says for vaccinated people "If you’ve been around someone who has COVID-19, you do not need to stay away from others or get tested unless you have symptoms." Assume someone in the cast (vaccinated or not) tests positive, they have to quarantine. But the vaccinated cast/crew can still perform as long as they are asymptomatic. So as long as they have high vaccination rates among the cast and crew, a positive test won't shut down Broadway shows.

I hope you’re right and that AEA’s guidelines jive with the CDC’s. As long as West End shows are following the NHS guidelines, it seems like they could end up in trouble. I can’t imagine that producers will put up with continuing to pay bills without any ticket sales unless they’re getting some kind of government assistance or production contracts are prorated by performance.

As Blaxx said this is bound to happen everywhere (Vax or no vax) and when it does the producers will have two choices: Cancel for weeks or cover it up.

The UK are planning to get rid of all social distancing and restriction policies on July 19th. After this date I assume that shows will operate in pre-pandemic state. It may become a nightmare if too many people call out sick etc. but I don’t think it will be the case shows will keep shutting down.

Well it was announced today that starting in August, anyone with both shots who came in contact with a Covid+ person will no longer have to self isolate. Not sure how this will impact situations like this but I’d imagine it would stop these shutdowns, as long as everyone was vaxxed (which should be required, anyways).

Two friends who are performers tested positive this week. Both are fully vaccinated, and they had bad flu symptoms that knocked them down. They were in no way in need of hospitalization, but they also said there’s no way they could have done their shows. We keep hearing how most of the people dying in the hospitals are unvaccinated, but we’re not hearing much about how it really is still affecting the vaccinated. It’ll be interesting to see if producers add extra swings, standbys, etc.

Actually I checked AEA guidelines that are in place until September 30th and they are more strict than CDC. Weekly tests required for everyone. If someone tests positive, everyone needs to be retested. Anyone positive needs to self isolate until cleared for work by a health care provider.
So I need to modify my response. If a positive case results in a lot of break through infections and too many people are out because they need to self isolate, it can shut down shows. A single (or a few) positive result won't shut down a show It will all depend on how many people are vaccinated and how much vaccines can stop breakthrough infections. As long as vaccinated people don't experience breakthrough infections shows will go on.
Edited to add: Of course these testing and self isolation rules can be changed and updated as time goes on.
