I think that they will be more hesitant to put Alysha on as Ti Moune.

1) The whole idea of the Grand Hommes is that they have lighter skin and if Alysha is Ti Moune, Loren would have to be Andrea. 

2) Alysha is already in a named role, and Loren is a swing. Unless Loren is covering for someone else, I can't see why she wouldn't play Ti Moune.

For these reasons, I'm kinda genuinely surprised Alysha even covers Ti Moune. 

Also, just because I was snooping around on the Playbill site — apparently two male actors cover Papa Ge. I find this interesting; wouldn't they have to switch keys for a male actor to play the role? Also — what would those costumes look like?

It sounds like Merle is singing in the original key, or at least close to it. She's just up the octave and singing alternate notes, it seems.

Yes, when I saw the show I was really impressed by Merles lower range. I think she sings it up an octave with a ton of alternate notes (she goes up on "His life is forever mine" vs. down in the original production). But her timbre is so deep that it's hard to have a good comparison.

When I went last week, Loren Lott was on for Andrea. She is absolutely stunning and stands out in the ensemble parts (in a good way). She did mention on Instagram about her being darker skinned for the role, but "it's the magic of Live Theater!" I just want to hear Alysha belt and riff the crap out of everything TiMoune sings. It will be something amazing. I have a feeling it will happen...hopefully we know in advance.

Also, 2 females cover Asaka (played by Alex Newell), Loren Lott and Aurelia Williams. It seems that Alex sings most of the role in the original key, like Merle. But damn good performances, by all. I'm ready to go back!

I believe that Newell sings it half a step lower.  Still impressive, but he's not doing it in the original key.

I caught OOTI for the first time yesterday afternoon, and Loren Lott, was on as Ti Moune. I had very little knowledge of the show going in, and was very impressed by what I saw! A really excellent score with outstanding direction. I wasn't a fan of Arden's Spring Awakening, but thought he did great work here.

Anyway, I though Lott was absolutely astonishing. Her voice was so powerful and seemed just perfect for the score. Her acting was beautiful, and she seemed to really connect to the material. She was super authentic/genuine.  I honestly couldn't imagine a better performance. I'm hoping to make another visit to see Miss Kilgore, but I honestly don't know how she could top what I saw yesterday.

I think this person is saying that they’re not sure how much it’s lowered and their guess would be a half step, but they are sure that it’s not the original key.

Last night was Rodrick Covington as Papa Ge, Tyler Hardwick as Beauxhomme Narrator, Loren Lott as Ti Moune, and T. Oliver Reid as Tonton Julian.

I had no previous exposure to the show and was a bit nervous when I saw 4 understudies but felt they all did very well.

Loren Lott was on Sunday, Monday and tonight as well as Ti Moune I have a ticket for tomorrow's matinee and hoping to see her in the role. I have seen Haley 3 times and have adored her, but want to hear Loren sing the heck out of that score!! Fingers crossed!

This cast has AMAZING attendance. I hope that at some point we can see a Aurelia or Loren play Asaka,  and Rodrick or T. Oliver play Papa Ge!

There are only 4 swings in the production which is crazy, I wonder if they ever have to combine tracks if too many people are out?

I do not want to be know for giving bad information, as I heard this from her directly. I apologize. I do know for fact she was on Tuesday because she did message and I tried the lotto and lost. I have a ticket for the 2pm today. Here is hoping.

It was actually pretty funny because i saw Alysha taking notes during the show sitting near me so she obviously was swung out to do so. this being the first time seeing the show, i didnt know what to expect but loved it and hailey was in great voice, as was andrea and damn they can sing!! Tamyra was also great! though i cant compare to Merle, as this was my first time seeing the show

So glad you enjoyed it! I was there as well. 2 rows behind. Alysha! I saw her run in at the opening an knew darn well what was going on. Hailey sounded fantastic today!! This was my 4th time to the island and in my own opinion, was on of the best! This cast was on fire! Hailey's acting was towards the end was heart wrenching. Just brilliant. Alex is getting so comfortable in the role and trying different vocalizations and they are working!!! Norm makes "Rain" an actual full powerhouse of a song!! Love that he has joined the cast. I loved Tamyra. Now, Merle scared the ever-loving crap out of me and always will. She is a queen! Tamyra was completely different, she had a sinister evil to her, with amazing vocal choices. She just shows it all off.! I never realized she is so tiny, but damn I would never want to get in her way! Loren Lott is my girl, even though she wasn't Ti Moune (I will see her one day), she just shines, absolutely gorgeous and always makes the most out of whatever she is given. I am sure she sings the heck out of Asaka as well, but BRAVO to Alex for going 100% on attendance! The show is just in such good shape! What a cast! Go see this if you are waiting! I noticed there was no one in standing room today, so I guess everyone won the lotto?? 

I spoke with Alysha after the show, she expected to perform today. They swung her out last minute to learn Ti Moune. She said she is the "Emergency Cover" who will now be a regular cover. Hailey is still getting used to 8 shows a week (at 18 years old) and they just want to be on the safe side if Loren is needed for another role. Alysha watched today for the first time ever (and was screaming and applauding her family, so awesome to see). She said she will have an official put-in Friday. They are making her costumes now. She had tears in her eyes talking about it because she thought she would never go on. I honestly cannot wait to hear her sing this role.I saw all her Schuyler Sisters (Eliza was my favorite) and that girl can sing!!!!!!
