Hamilton Professional Filming of OBC

Im sorry if i missed this.



Can any of the close hamilton followers or industry insiders confirm that they have already Filmed the OBC for future use or distribution? Miranda must have a sense of the historic nature of the show so im really hoping the answer is yes....

No, the show has not been professionally filmed for release yet.

i was talking about filming....that is too bad, with Groff already gone and much of the cast leaving after July.

Even though the original cast is leaving soon they could still come back to film it. That's what happened with Into the Woods, South Pacific, etc

It could happen...but it will be years until it gets released. Years.



As to the library recordings, I can answer some of your questions. No, it is not always the original cast. In this case, we know it won't be as a number of them have already left. Usually, the only shows that don't get recorded are those that either close too fast, or announce a closing with no time to arrange. (I wouldn't be surprised if Disaster! didn't get recorded.)

Not true. You can not view any archived show that is currently playing. Once it closes, it becomes available to view.

Disaster was recorded yeaterday

Since they're currently making a documentary about 'Hamilton' that's going to air later this year on PBS, and LMM has already had success in the theater, my guess is that when they got together to record the cast album he and the producers arranged to have some cameras there to film the cast members singing at various times (I've seen snippets of this on various news shows). I'm sure they didn't record the entire thing, and no professional video recording of the show currently exists. There is at least one bootleg that I know of, and there are probably others out there, but the only professionally filmed parts of the show are the ones done for the press reels.

Actually, yes. He did say this and he said it to me personally when we were talking about the importance of theater being preserved. He knows it won't be shown/made available for a very very long time, but he does want the show filmed with the entire original cast and released for distribution at some point.

when you think of the value of this original content, im suprised every broadway producer doesnt budget a multicamera video of each OBC of major productions.



I know most of these shoot over three or four nights with a live audience and typically lose a few hundred seats for the cameras and booms.

Does anyone know for example, how much it cost to film Memphis OBC, which was a fantastic filming and capture of their OBC?

No. That got reported but he said it was a misquote. "

I don't think it was a "misquote." He meant that he wanted it filmed professionally but that wouldn't necessarily happen due to all the things that normally prevent these things from happening. But he definitely said it.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned that shows are also sometimes filmed by the producers early on for use in preparing TV commercials. I've seen rough bootlegs of THE BOY FROM OZ and GREY GARDENS and FOLLIES because a friend of a friend does this for a living. For all I know, doing so may violate every rule in the union contract, but it happens. (Based on what I've seen, such films are not commercial quality and are only used to pick the footage that will be re-filmed for TV commercials and b-rolls. The footage doesn't actually show up on TV.)

What was done with HAMILTON I have no idea.
