From seeing other Award Shows, that's the reaction I've seen when performances are via satellite.
"And I was very, very, VERY pleased. A) Think about the categorical enormity of the Grammys—the GRAMMYS—in 2016 reserving a performance spot for a MUSICAL THEATER nominee. And B) Yes, we all know that there are plenty of other moving or emotional or energetic or inspiring songs, but if you really had to pick a single song that was going to introduce the visuals and sounds of the production to a mainstream audience, "Alexander Hamilton" is the only way to go, realistically."
I agree totally and the newspaper reviews I read thought the performance was one of the Grammy highlights.

Not sure if many of them really got it or were even paying much attention.
I thought the same thing but you also have to remember that was not the target audience, the people watching at home were. My daughter, who knows nothing about the theater world, texted me to say, "that was really cool". I think it was great for Broadway to have their moment at the Grammys, finally.

I thought she was the best parts of the soundtrack and I think she has a great voice (and one of my favorite renditions of On the Steps of the Palace). I think she could do a good pop album in the vein of Taylor Swift.

I have no comment on the song selection or performance or win but just to be clear: their performance, and the winning acceptance speech (rap), was pre-recorded. NOT live. They had filmed all of that 2 - 3 hours prior to the start of the broadcast. A friend was there -- yes, the audience was all "family & friend" comps -- and basically live tweeting it. He said they filmed the performance four times with the creative team giving notes after each performance to the actors.

What a shock. A variation of your same comment for the 7 millionth time. Don't you have some weather to forecast?

Amen !!

Good point, I am sure reaction would have been better if they were there performing the song.

I really have tried but I can't take it seriously. Those first guys rapping with the emphasis on the wrong syllables and this very forced "semi cool intonation" of words and sound in their voices, just feels so unnatural, a very forced way of trying to sound "cool".
It just makes me laugh. While I think what they are trying to do is portraying something serious?

No, I mean it sounds kind of dumb and laughable. From every person who does it.
Did people in attendance at the 2012 tony awards give the hairspray from the sea a standing o? No.

Every black person at least, right?

Just because they filmed the other ones doesn't mean that the real thing wasn't live. Just look at the Twitter feeds and everything seems to line up with going live. They have to have a plan b in case the feed goes out so they probably send the best copy to la. Also, they have to perform a few times for camera blocking, etc. and the notes were probably "walk here or stand here for the camera". Maybe the win was taped in advance for the same reason.
Yes, the performance was so laughable that I ordered the cast recording yesterday before actually seeing it and don't regret that at all.
"And the sad part is that they can get free tickets so easily and the people who love it and respect it can't afford it."
Not really, though. Pretty much nobody is getting comps to Hamilton.

That was camera rehearsal. Of course they filmed it. The performance was live.

They probably meant music industry professionals have more disposable income than us regular folks.
Obviously no one had any doubts that Hamilton was not gonna win, but is it weird to have the physical Grammy award at the Richard Rodgers for Alex Lacamoire to hold after winning, was it a even a surprise? Do they usually do that?
Just re-watched Amy Winehouse satellite performance when it was broadcast from London 8 years ago, and she was NOT holding the award after winning....

Dave19's barely-veiled racism is as charming as ever. What words were mis-emphasized? Why is "semi cool" in quotes?
I dedicate the following song to Dave19:
You've got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You've got to be taught
From year to year,
It's got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff'rent shade,
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught before it's too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You've got to be carefully taught!
So, Dave19, who taught you?

Why didn't they have a new block of tickets ready to go? Seems crazy to miss out on this moment.
Not that it matters I guess....

It seems to me they are trying to not sell more than a year in advance so the dates don't get confusing to the audience.
